The Oscars 95 Recap: The Year of The Big Picture

The Oscars 95 Recap: The Year of The Big Picture

Let’s recap the night in this blog post. The night began with the Oscars 95 host Jimmy Kimmel parachuting from the ceiling. And the crowd gave their first applause inside the Dolby Theatre.

Who do you think came up with that idea? It was an enjoyable moment for the live crowd and the at home audience. After taking off his parachute, Kimmel started doing what he does best…telling jokes. The comedian was full of them.

Avatar: The Way of Water director James Cameron and Top Gun: Maverick lead actor Tom Cruise were absent at The 95th Oscars and Kimmel joked about it. Does the comedian have a point? He said Cameron did not attend because he wasn’t nominated for Directing. Also the comedian mentioned the director’s marriages and box office receipts.

Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt gave Guillermo Del Toro the first Oscar for his Pinocchio. His acceptance speech was full of passion as he thanked his wife and lastly his parents. At the last Oscars, Ariana DeBose won for her role in West Side Story and Troy Kostur won for his role in Coda. Next, DeBose and Kostur would hand Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis awards for their supporting roles. When was the last time the same movie (Everything Everywhere All At Once) won both best supporting roles?

Everything Everywhere All At Once took home a total of seven Oscars. It’s safe to say the film owned the night. I’ve watched a lot of Academy Awards in my day and haven’t seen a night quite like this one in a long time. You could feel the energy at Dolby Theatre.

Did you enjoy the presentation? The slate of presenters were some of the biggest celebrities. There were tons of stars. If you love entertainment, you were impressed last night. Leading up to the event, the celebs arrived on the red carpet which was painted a champagne color this year.

Tom Cruise may not have made an appearance at the Academy Awards this time, but he did attend the Oscars nominees luncheon. He shared a great moment with Austin Butler at that event. I posed the question: do you want Austin Butler to win Best Actor for his performance in Elvis? Fans overwhelmingly answered yes, they wanted him to win. Later, I’ll discuss who won.

Have you heard about the Vanity Fair Oscars After Party? From the beginning of awards season to the end of the afterparty Everything Everywhere All At Once made their presence known. Michele Yeoh made history by becoming the first Asian actress to win a Best Actress Academy Award.

It’s been 21 years since a woman of color won an award in this category. She took the moment and gave a terrific speech about how one never truly peaks as long as one keeps going. Everything Everywhere All At Once went on to win Best Original Screenplay and Best Directing as well. Check out complete winners list here.

Once again, you could feel the energy. In addition, music filled the air and everybody was in harmony. Lady Gaga touched the crowd with her Hold My Hand from the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack. Then, Rihanna uplifted everybody with Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Lastly, Lenny Kravitz sang Calling All Angels from his 2004 Baptism album to honor the lost stars.

There wasn’t too much commotion or many surprises except Brendan Fraser winning Best Actor for The Whale.

The final applause of the night inside Dolby Theatre went to Best Picture winner Everything Everywhere All At Once. It was not only a night to remember but an award season to remember. The Golden Globes, the Grammys, the SAG Awards all told similar stories. In the end, it’s all about the big picture. Follow me on Twitter @IamGuruJay. Thank you!

Do You Want Austin Butler to Win the Best Actor?

Do you want Austin Butler’s performance in “Elvis” to win Best Actor at the 2023 Oscars?

There are Elvis impersonators. Then, there is Austin Butler as Elvis. Tell me you’ve seen his Oscar nominated performance. The question is do you want him to win Best Actor in a Leading Role?

I grew up during a time when Elvis was more famous than dead or alive presidents. His name was money. And we all know cash is king. Well, he’s called the King of Rock & Roll because his hard work paid dividends like Coca-Cola.

A Bright Future

Now, here we have Austin Butler, a 31-year-old movie star who’s shining bright as ever. That’s right he’s the man you see on the screen portraying the larger-than-life figure, the legend Elvis himself. Maybe, you’re asking where he came from. Or maybe you’re seizing the time and appreciating the moment.

If you want to know more about the actor’s background, you can check out his Wikipedia page. For the most part, the information is accurate and reputable. I’m discussing where this celebrity is going.

A Meeting With Tom Cruise

Does he fly in private jets yet? Have you seen photos and videos of him with Tom Cruise at the Oscars nominees’ luncheon? By the looks of it, Cruise is passing the torch to the young Hollywood star. Let’s propose a toast to Austin Butler. Welcome to the good life.

Something tells me this is only the beginning. Don’t be surprised if Cruise and Butler star in a movie or two together. Nowadays, Hollywood works fast and there’s room for everybody at the table.

It seems everybody wants to play the role of Elvis Presley, but Austin Butler put the hard work in and delivered an Academy Award winning performance. What more does the actor have to do to prove he’s the best?

And Tom Hanks

Fun fact: Tom Hanks plays a supporting role in the Elvis movie. End of discussion, because if Hanks is in the film it’s got to be top notch. The only thing is the young actor is up against some serious competition. Brendan Fraser in “The Whale” is generating a lot of buzz.

Not to take away from Fraser, but Butler became Elvis and took over the screen. In theaters or at home, you could see and hear an Elvis clone. He looked and sounded like the real deal. All around, it is a great movie and Austin Butler’s performance is part of the reason why.

Playing the most famous man on planet Earth and living up to expectations at the same time requires something greater than talent and dedication. Although not a superhero yet, he’s one of Hollywood’s best actors right now. Could you imagine him in a film with Michael B. Jordan?

In addition, the actor went on record about his good friendship with Selena Gomez. Did you see him on the cover of Vanity Fair? Better yet, have you read the story? It’s interesting to put together the connections.

The movie business is full of talent and the man playing Elvis is center stage. It looks like the movie star has a very bright future. If he takes home the Oscar for Best Actor, it’s a wrap.

The Golden Globes are done. The Grammys are done. The Oscars are almost done. Are you watching?

It is all coming full circle. Jimmy Kimmel’s schedule to host. I am looking forward to watching the live event.

What are your thoughts? Have you watched the Elvis movie? Do you want Austin Butler to win Best Actor?

Why Keira Knightley Is The Perfect Actress

BY: GURU JAY

Why Keira Knightley Is The Perfect Actress

Keira Knightley is one of my favorite actresses. I believe she is the best British entertainer right now. Moreover, her qualities as an actor are perfect. At 31, who has accomplished as much as this Hollywood star?

She poetically portrays characters on the silver screen. Also, nothing gets in the way of her delivering top notch results. Keira Knightley is known for superior performances. The Hollywood actress is laser focused in her films. You can easily see how her hard work pays dividends.

In my mind, Keira Knightley should sit next to Julia Roberts at the Academy Awards. Why don’t I arrange the Oscars seating charts with Keira Knightley’s Name between Roberts and mine?; that’s just a suggestion. Like Brie Larson, she’s one of the best actresses in showbiz. The red carpet was made for her footprints.

This phenomenal actress is one of the reasons I recommend Collateral Beauty. She helps bring the story to life as her character pulls off an amazing performance. I literally love Keira Knightley, who plays the abstract Love, in Collateral Beauty.

Additionally, she steals the spotlight from Benedict Cumberbatch in the Imitation Game. The wonderful thespian convinces the audience that her character, a cryptanalyst, helps save the world from destruction. Did you know that the movie is based on a true story?

As you can tell, Keira Knightley is everything you want in an actress. She has the look and style plus the talent minus the attitude. Sure, she seems a little sassy but that’s how we like it, right? When you make it to the top, you’re entitled to special privileges.

Knightley has earned significant star power by consistently shining throughout her illustrious career. She’s earned endorsements by commanding attention to her cause. Through constant repetition and memorization, Keira Knightley became one of the highest paid and most in-demand actresses of all time. As far as I’m concerned, Keira Knightley is the perfect actress.

Who’s Hotter Than Blake Lively?

Hollywood has every star you could think of: from music, comedy, tv and of course movies. Being famous is harder than you think though. Entertainers are under enormous pressure to perform and exceed expectations. It’s not enough to please fans anymore, you have to please producers and directors too.

Blake Lively is fastly becoming one of my favorite actresses. Can you believe the Age of Adaline actress is only 29 years old? But she has built the body of work of a 40 year old actor. Check out Blake Lively in my piece called 30 Hottest Hollywood Starlets Under 30.

It’s only a matter of time before Blake Lively receives her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Celebrities like Lively walk on the red carpet for a living and receive star treatment. What is more, this celebrity can have anything she wants, all she needs to do is ask for it. You asked for it and that’s why you’re here.

Lively is in the process of becoming an exceptional A List actress. We’re talking about the best in the business here. It wouldn’t surprise if she is the highest paid actress pretty soon. She’s already one of the hottest.

As you can see Blake Lively stays busy. The Gossip Girl cares about her reputation. Did you know she filmed 121 episodes in 6 seasons of Gossip Girl?

The celebrity is proof that when you play your cards right, nothing can go wrong. Everything goes as plan if you stick to the script and execute. Who’s more in demand than Blake Lively right now?

The Shallows made $119 million at the box office. Cafe Society was a critical success. And All I See Is You should do well in theaters.

Moreover, she is a showbiz princess. Blake Lively is a joy to be around. The pleasant actress keeps a smile on her face no matter what. Who’s hotter than Blake Lively?

Jason Bourne Movie Review

Matt Damon does it again. This time around as Jason Bourne, he is the best ever. Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander play an excellent supporting cast. Everything about this movie is excellent. That’s why I give it an A, 5 stars out of 5.

I feel Jason Bourne is redemption in more ways than one. First, Matt Damon redeems the movie franchise. Second, Jason Bourne redeems David Webb.

Throughout the movie, the main character is searching for answers. In a sense, he finds an answer within himself. At times he encounters challenging questions.

What role did his father play in the program? Where does he go from here? Who can he trust? All these questions and more are answered by Jason Bourne himself.

The cinematographers delivered incredible images. Plus, Jason Bourne tells an interesting story. Give credit to spectacular writing and directing. I thoroughly enjoyed the fight scenes. There’s a reason why Matt Damon is considered the best action movie star alongside Tom Cruise.

If you’re fascinated with technology, the CIA, or politics, then watch Jason Bourne at your earliest convenience. It’s the best movie I’ve seen all year. It’s complete with a whole lot of finesse and power. There isn’t any extra stuff cluttering the feed.

No one could have worked the CIA Director’s part better than Tommy Lee Jones, except Morgan Freeman. Moreover, Alicia Vikander is almost perfect. Her accent only throws you off a tiny bit.

Lastly, Jason Bourne ends terrifically. I won’t spoil it for you. All I’ll say is you can never count Bourne out. He’ll get to the bottom of it one way or another.

Get off the fence about seeing Jason Bourne, and get your butt in a seat. Don’t miss out on premium entertainment. Once again, Matt Damon does it, only this time better.

Morgan Freeman Amazing Filmography

BY: GURU JAY

Morgan Freeman has delivered many iconic performances throughout his legendary career. How do you make a list of his best movies? Maybe the answer is…you don’t. Still, I would like to talk about his amazing filmography.
Let’s start the discussion with the Shawshank Redemption.
The Shawshank Redemption reveals the depth of man’s solitude. Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding exists in a manmade habitat based on making profit from human labor. In the film, Freeman finds a way to demolish the totality of the prison industrial complex as an actor. He’s inside the prison but the prison isn’t inside of him. Despite circumstances, Red refuses to lose hope within.
The actor plays DCI Cabot to perfection in the Sum of All Fears. The star never has a problem portraying powerful people. What is more, he empowers the cast. I believe Ben Affleck became better because he shared a screen with Morgan Freeman. Freeman always sets himself apart.
I believe his career was all set after Lean on Me. After Lean on Me there could be no denying of his greatness. The movie delivers an important message. You may want to check out a similar movie called Hard Lessons starring Denzel Washington.
Morgan Freeman alongside Jack Nicholson in the Bucket List was phenomenal. There are some twists and the ending was emotional. Now it seems everyone’s making a Bucket List because of this movie’s success. It made $175.4 Million at the box office worldwide.
I also highly recommend watching: Bruce Almighty, Invictus, The Dark Knight, and Lucy.
Moreover, software can’t duplicate his voice. Impressionists will come close but there’s nothing like hearing the man command the English tongue. Morgan Freeman takes pride in his work and it pays dividends. Directors know he won’t accept just any role. Without question, screenwriters prepare scripts with Freeman in mind.

X-Men Apocalypse Movie Review SPOILER ALERT

BY: GURU JAY

Apocalypse awakens from a deep sleep ready to usher into the world a new age. However, Professor X, Mystique, and their X-Men will fight for the good of humanity and themselves. Apocalypse handpicks 4 mutants to take over and rule the world.

I give the X-Men: Apocalypse movie 4 stars. That’s 1 star for every horseman (as advertised). The movie lives up to the buildup. Plus the new characters make a grand entrance. It’s funny seeing how Cyclops can’t control his powers and inadvertently destroys Professor X’s grandfather tree. This film receives high marks on the plot and screenwriting.
SPOILER ALERT
My favorite part had to be Hugh Jackman’s exit as Wolverine. How do you replace someone that great? Maybe, you don’t.
Moreover, the new Storm did a good job replacing Halle Berry. Give her time and she’ll become a big star. Hollywood should have more actresses like this. Give a nod to Phoenix too. She delivered more than expected as well.
Apocalypse was the very first mutant in the comic book. The scenes in this movie are like a comic book come alive. Comic book collectors can sit down with amateurs and enjoy this movie together.
There are a lot of conflicts within conflicts. Will Maury tell Magneto “You are the father,” about Quicksilver? Can Professor X get Apocalypse out of his head?
X-Men Apocalypse fathoms the idea of the world ending. Apocalypse attempts to rule the planet by absorbing every power. Hence, he disarms all nations of their nuclear weapons. Then, with the unwilling help of Professor X, he’s able to control every person.
While under mind control his words become orders obeyed by all. The only one who can really disobey is Professor X, because his power supersedes even Apocalypse’s own, he just doesn’t know it yet.
Overall, I love X-Men:Apocalypse. I might go see it a second and third time. It’s deserving of a B+ grade. They always set the bar high, do they?
