This Saturday I spent some time watching The Tick with family. We were looking for a fun comedy and came across the Amazon Prime series. I had a feeling it was going to be good.

I noticed #TheTick trending on Twitter. These days I find some of my best stories originate from Twitter. I’d love to hear your take on the new TV show. Here are my thoughts on the new Amazon Prime series.

First of all, the acting was over the top, borderline bad. I don’t remember ever seeing the cartoon, but if I did it was probably better than this malarkey. I think it should have stayed a cartoon; at least in that format, I could better understand and excuse the plot holes and poor character developments.

As the Original Entertainment Guru, I value original entertainment. The Tick lacked creativity. You see I heard those jokes before already. I wanted them to say something new and different for a change. It didn’t happen. Comedy is all about discovering new perspectives. At the end of the day, I saw the same ole perspective. I had high expectations for The Tick. Maybe, I set the bar too high.

On the bright side, the cinematography was fine. I think it was a good setting. Still, there wasn’t enough excitement for me. It has potential in a parallel universe.

Overall, I gave it 2 stars out of 5. After watching the pilot and the second episode, we had to call it a day. It wasn’t our cup of tea. It wasn’t a total waste of time though, because I took a nap.

They tried to be like the Green Lantern, but failed. I haven’t seen this much bad TV in a long time. I was disappointed. Who’s watching The Tick? Share your thoughts in the comments section.

Are You Binge-Watching The Defenders?

I decided to binge-watch Marvel’s The Defenders on Netflix. The Defenders showcases 4 amazing talents. The series combines Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and the Iron Fist into one. Let’s start the discussion. Are you binge-watching the Defenders?

In this blog, I will analyze the first four episodes.I will tell you what I liked and what I didn’t like. By the end, you’ll see why they call me the Original Entertainment Guru.

I throughly enjoyed the first episode. The story begins in Cambodia with sword fighting and a ton of action. A dying man’s last words were “the real war is in New York City.” As the Immortal Iron Fist flys back on his private plane, he experiences turbulence coupled with a nightmare about Cambodia. His girlfriend comforts him as he wakes up.

Then, it cuts to Jessica Jones. She’s busy doing the usual- lifting cars and shit. Plus, Luke Cage gets out of jail. He doesn’t have time for the man to un-cuff him, so he breaks the cuffs in half with all his might. Meanwhile, Daredevil wins a big case for $11 million.

The first 2 episodes reintroduce all 4 characters in dramatic fashion. It was well written and the acting was terrific. Moreover, the director deserves credit for his vision.

I didn’t like the second episode that much. The third episode was the best so far. It had an unforgettable ending. You gotta check it out and see what I mean. I’ve never seen a more powerful ending to an episode. The fourth episode takes place in a Chinese restaurant.

Overall, the series was well worth the wait. There is something for everybody. The show progressively gets better. In many ways, it is almost like a movie. The Defenders is great TV. I highly recommend binge-watching the Netflix Original series. You may want to watch Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Daredevil first.

I like what Netflix and Marvel are doing. Bringing 4 shows into one is brilliant, brilliant I tell you. If you are into comics, superheroes and the like, it is is a must-see. You receive premium entertainment value. I stopped my binge-watching at the 5th episode. I look forward to seeing the rest. Stay tuned for part II.

Why Seth Rogen Is Canada’s Complete Comedic Actor

Comedy offers possibilities. Seth Rogen should play a role in Mission Impossible. He could spend some extra time in the gym with Tom Cruise’s personal training help.

Canada’s complete comedic actor puts the “Can” in Canada. You thought I was going to say trash or recycle bin maybe, didn’t you? My advice is to light up your cigars because this thing called life is hard sometimes.

You see comedians light up the world in dark times. We need more laughter and less tears. That’s why I’m blogging about comedy today.

Seth Rogen is one of my favorite comedians. You could argue that he is one of the best in showbiz. He just does a good job imitating Drake- that’s all.

I’ll never forget his joke about Facebook in Funny People. He gave Jonah Hill a comedy lesson. Plus, Adam Sandler got a few pointers (or should I say Pokes) from Seth.

I highly recommend watching Pineapple Express. Who else can’t wait to see Seth and James Franco star in Pineapple Express 2? For one, Rogen and Franco go together like beans and cornbread. Who remembers Green Latern? Have you seen the controversial Interview movie?

I like Seth Rogen because he regulates the comedy world. Seth understands how to Dougie. He can teach you how to do it too.

While I’m on the topic of dancing, check out his Lip Sync Battle with Jimmy Fallon? It’s on YouTube right now. You’ll also enjoy his appearance on the Ellen Show.

In many ways, his comedy comes on you unexpectedly. He never forces his material. The laid back celebrity keeps a low profile and does what is needed.

Are you waiting for Neighbors 2 DVD to hit store shelves? Was Sausage Party funny? I feel Seth Rogen hasn’t maximized his true potential yet. Could you imagine a Seth Rogen and Zach Galifianakiscollaboration? They could make a rap song to satisfy fans. With 4.5 million Twitter followers, that’s a whole lot of potential greatness.

Why George Lopez Is Champion

Who are your five favorite standup comedians? George Lopez makes my list because he is a distinguished gentleman like Eddie Murphy. It’s not always a bad thing when the gray hair starts showing. The best comedians are experienced on stage and in life too.
This doesn’t mean soldiers need to take a bullet or need to get fired at and take cover. Funny people get my drift. I’m a long time George Lopez fan.
You see there is a lesson in Lopez’s story. That’s why Lopez is a focal point in Elite Latino Comedians: Best in Show Biz. Remember elite isn’t a bad word but fuck is. All I am saying is there is nothing wrong with doing your best. This Hollywood star keeps shining especially in dark times.

That’s when you know you’re on top. The tabloids can write anything and it doesn’t faze you. George Lopez tells the truth. He takes risks. For instance, Spare Parts was a film that could have failed. Instead this movie showcased his skills as a dramatic actor much like Reign Over Me did for Adam Sandler.
What is more, the Latino, Asian, and African American communities respect Lopez for championing important causes. I highly recommend watching Spare Parts- a true story about a Latino high school beating MIT in an underwater robotics tournament. It is thought provoking.
Plus the movie is funny. How can you not laugh with George Lopez? If Steve Harvey is the #1 Answer, then George Lopez is Numero Uno.
The Mexican American actor has came a long way to make it big. He got here by staying focused. So the moral of the story is to don’t lose focus and keep trying. George got knocked down on the ground, but he got back up. And that’s what champions do.

Who Is Watching Dr. Ken?

Laughter is the best medicine. And Dr. Ken is the best doctor. Well, Ken Jeong is at minimum the funniest physician on prime time.
Have you made your appointment with the doctor yet? Will you bend over so he can examine your funny bone? Ken Jeong stars as Dr. Ken in a new hilarious sitcom named after him.
Who is watching Dr. Ken? I’ve watched the TV show for a few weeks now. It keeps getting better each episode.
You know sitcoms come and go, but I believe Dr. Ken is here to stay. Credit the casting department for finding tremendously talented people. Do you like Tisha Campbell-Martin?
Overall, this show contains the right mixture of ingredients. Check it out right after a long day of work. Forget about the stresses that pain you.

There are too many criminal thrillers and not enough comedies. Dr. Ken delivers potent jokes in dosages. He noticeably deviates from the norm.
Can Hollywood’s executive producers take more breaks from violence? How about creating more comedy shows for a change?    
You won’t find another show with all of Dr. Ken’s components. It plays to the audience’s curiosities. Taboo topics aren’t off limits. In fact, controversy is welcome.

At Guru Jay, I filter the best entertainment news. Believe me, Dr. Ken is worth watching. Don’t wait until season 5 when the characters are completely developed to jump on the bandwagon.
Right now is a prime opportunity to become a fan. It is important to support shows in the beginning. I’ve seen several great programs get cancelled. Even TV shows with unbelievable numbers get axed.

Celebrating Will Ferrell’s Greatness

I am an avid Saturday Night Live watcher. While it’s nice to support wild cards occasionally, I unapologetically like New York Yankees baseball, USA Today news, and English muffins. In other words, I believe in winning, tradition, and longevity.
Will Farrell happens to be a Saturday Night Live alumni. Furthermore, his longstanding comedy is outstanding. Whether impersonating George W. Bush or a make-believe character, he makes you laugh. I don’t believe Farrell has a comfort zone because the comedian constantly breaks barriers and exceeds expectations.
Furthermore, the Frat Pack brother rarely disappoints because he is a rare breed in comedy. The Funny Or Die cofounder utilizes multiple streams to reach his audience. Like tires, you must change with the times. Farrell adapts to circumstances.

I vividly remember watching Talladega Nights. It is an unforgettable movie because every character serves a purpose. As NASCAR driver Ricky Bobby, Will Ferrell makes your tears rain.
Moreover, the comedic actor’s performance in Talladega Nightsdeserves special recognition. That’s why it is one of the top 10 comedy moviesof all time. If you want guaranteed laughter directly from your diagram, watch this film. Ricky Bobby epitomizes overconfidence.
Also, the Anchor Man franchise showcases Ferrell’s repertoire of skills. Director Adam McKay stated that a 3rd installment will never happen. However, there are no absolutes in the entertainment industry. Take into consideration that the movie generated $100 million in profit.
The Other Guys, Old School, and Elfbecame instant classics. Will Ferrell style suits well with everybody because he is relatable. Finding consistently bankable movie stars is difficult.
Plus, he is great in Get Hard. Who could have guessed Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart go together like ebony and ivory? You should see Get Hard a 2nd time because the script is intact.

Who Is More Country? Jeff Foxworthy Vs. Larry the Cable Guy

I’ve followed comedians Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy for more than a decade. They’re true to the blue. That’s why Jeff and Larry are the richest comics in show business.
Did you read about their upcoming tour together? It’s generating a lot of buzz. I’m thinking about buying a couple of tickets.
Whenever Foxworthy gets on stage, he makes rednecks comfortable. Rednecks get Goosebumps, when Larry the Cable Guy comes to the stage. Without question, the Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? host is a much safer bet than the Delta Farce. Sometimes, Larry the Cable Guy embarrasses you.
But they can’t say he cheats you. As a standup comic, the Cable Guy still stands as one of the best buys in my book of comedy. What is more, this generation coming up is arrogant and entitled.

Back in Larry’s day, children respected their elders. Nowadays, nobody values anything. I like Larry because like Kevin James, he sweats the small stuff. In other words, the relatable comic cherishes the tiniest of kind gestures. Clearly, society has changed too quickly. Does Jeff Foxworthy lose the message to his story as a result?
I admire how Jeff doesn’t aimlessly throw jokes at you. The man pitches his material like baseball legend Randy Johnson with crazy velocity. While he’s on the mound, his opponents fear for their livelihoods.
Both comics appeal to blue-collar workers. But, I believe white, pink, and green collar workers can value their celebrity offerings. They have a ton to offer the comedy sphere.

If you’re going to a Monster Truck Rally or WWE tournament, tag along with Larry. If you’re attending a hockey match, Jeff is your guy . Although they are both similar, we must value their differences too.
For what it’s worth, Jeff Foxworthy doesn’t stay in character. On the other hand, the Cable Guy is a marketing invention designed to spruce up ticket prices. Anyway, Larry busts your gut all the same.
If Larry is comedy’s Kenny Chesney, that makes Foxworthy Blake Shelton. After a long day of work, you deserve to play their comedy on Blu-ray. I bet a donkey, you’ll laugh your ass off.
In a crowded field, they have mastered their brands and distinguished their art forms. How did Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy reach top status? With your help… these comedians became the cream of the crop.
They wouldn’t get anywhere without a dedicated Southern fandom. Truly, they have followers all around the country and the world even. But, you can’t deny the power of Southern hospitality, which brings me to my final question. Who is more country?
