Is Bad Bunny the New Sound of Rap Music?

Bad Bunny will perform at the Grammys Sunday February 5, 2023. Are you looking forward to watching the Puerto Rican rapper perform? It’s going to be all you thought and more. Isn’t he the man of the hour? Where are my Bad Bunny fans? Did you see his 2020 Super Bowl performance? Where do I start this discussion off at?

First, Bad Bunny is out to prove a point. That’s why his music is out there. Have you ever heard a bad Bad Bunny song? No, right? Also, the Grammys are only the tip of the iceberg of his resume. In addition to this, he’s the headliner of the Coachella festival in April along with Frank Ocean and BLACKPINK. This 28-year-old has built a strong fan base with millions of followers. His Instagram has 44 million followers and counting. For some reason, it’s private right now. There is a lot of good stuff to say about Bad Bunny. Despite his fame, he’s managing things quite well. Going into the Grammys, he’s probably the biggest name performing.

I believe we can compare him with Pitbull and Drake. Like Pitbull, he represents his heritage well. And like Drake, he presents a lover boy image too. His future is bright. The star is not only shining but rising. What is more, the music artist does not need to sing in English. If you want to listen to the rapper and understand his lyrics, it will help if you spoke a little Spanish.

What’s Up?

Are you a fan? What are some of your favorite songs and music videos by this music artist? You can find him on Youtube and Spotify. And if you really want to get to know about him, check out his Wikipedia and Britannica pages. There’s so much I learned about the rapper from reading these sources.

So far, did you know his discography includes 5 studio albums, 94 singles, 1 Extended Play and 1 Compilation? He’s put in a lot of hard work and the effort shows. That’s a lot of content the celebrity has been building since 2013. Make no mistake about it, the entertainer isn’t going away despite taking a break from social media. In fact, his Grammys and Coachella performances tell a different story.

I came up with an idea of a Bad Bunny and BLACKPINK collaboration. Together they could appeal to a huge audience uniting Latinos and Asians. Don’t you feel music needs something like this? What is more, it’s only a matter of time before Bad Bunny sings in English. Hold up for a minute. Imagine the possibility of a Spanish, Korean, and English single. How wild would that music video be?

Experimenting

Entertainment is an experimental space full of possibilities. Music can take us places only dreams do. We are familiar with his collaborations with J Balvin and Jennifer Lopez. What if he performed with country music singers? By now in 2023, you should know anything could happen. Did you see Sam Smith and Kim Petras Saturday Night Live performance? Bad Bunny isn’t afraid to make a statement himself. Go back through the archives and you’ll find he’s a risk taker.

His latest album, Un Verano Sin Ti, translates in English as A Summer Without You. This album is number one on the U.S. and U.S. Latin music charts. Tití Me Preguntó released on June 1, 2022, was the song of the summer. Please tell me you’ve seen the music video by now. To wrap it up, with his album going 5 x platinum, Bad Bunny is the new sound of rap music.

Why George Lopez Is Champion

BY: GURU JAY

Who are your five favorite standup comedians? George Lopez makes my list because he is a distinguished gentleman like Eddie Murphy. It’s not always a bad thing when the gray hair starts showing. The best comedians are experienced on stage and in life too.
This doesn’t mean soldiers need to take a bullet or need to get fired at and take cover. Funny people get my drift. I’m a long time George Lopez fan.
You see there is a lesson in Lopez’s story. That’s why Lopez is a focal point in Elite Latino Comedians: Best in Show Biz. Remember elite isn’t a bad word but fuck is. All I am saying is there is nothing wrong with doing your best. This Hollywood star keeps shining especially in dark times.

That’s when you know you’re on top. The tabloids can write anything and it doesn’t faze you. George Lopez tells the truth. He takes risks. For instance, Spare Parts was a film that could have failed. Instead this movie showcased his skills as a dramatic actor much like Reign Over Me did for Adam Sandler.
What is more, the Latino, Asian, and African American communities respect Lopez for championing important causes. I highly recommend watching Spare Parts- a true story about a Latino high school beating MIT in an underwater robotics tournament. It is thought provoking.
Plus the movie is funny. How can you not laugh with George Lopez? If Steve Harvey is the #1 Answer, then George Lopez is Numero Uno.
The Mexican American actor has came a long way to make it big. He got here by staying focused. So the moral of the story is to don’t lose focus and keep trying. George got knocked down on the ground, but he got back up. And that’s what champions do.

Pitbull Vs. Drake RAP BATTLE

BY: GURU JAY

Pitbull raps fast. Drake switches up his pace. The Cuban rapper uses speed to try and knockout the Canadian. In the end, who wins the rap battle?
Prepare for the unexpected when dealing with Drake. Can you explain the magnitude of his creativity? His lyrics contain poisonous words.
Like an anaconda, Drake attacks with bad intentions. Don’t play poker with the financially ‘Successful’ singer. He goes all in every hand.
Toronto supports Drake 100 percent. Also, Latinos and the urban youth respect Pitbull. What club doesn’t play either star’s music?
I’ve always said the Miami rapper should marry Jennifer Lopez. They make moving music like seasoned salsa partners. It takes two to tango. And, JLO has Pitbull’s phone number.

Have you seen Drake’s Sprite commercial? While rapping in the studio, he takes a break to obey his thirst. His song ‘Over’ forever changed rap music’s sound.
Like Prince, Drake’s songs are sensational. There are too many major Drake hits to name them all. What is more, he stays potent.

If Usher’s the club’s DJ then Pitbull’s the promoter. It’s a thrilling experience when Pitbull grabs the mic. For a moment you enter into his world, and see the bright lights through his sunglasses.
You speak a little Spanish now too.

Pitbull is the ideal celebrity because he constantly celebrates. If you’re in a festive mood, listen to a Pitbull album. Rapping for the Cuban is a deadly art form. He cremates competition with his fiery words like a dragon.
Pitbull understands his role on the entertainment scene. Who comes close to Pitbull’s pedigree? Who is more energetic?
The entertainer plays verbal gymnastics with words. Wait for his dismount. In contrast, Drake’s got style, substance and rhythm.
Who wins the rap battle between Pitbull and Drake? Chime in your comments. I am Guru Jay launching off into orbit in 5-4-3-2-1!

Elite Latino Comedians: The Best in Show Biz

BY: GURU JAY

Long before the YouTube dislike button was created, comedians were booed off stage. Like my dad says: “it’s a hard job but somebody’s got to do it.” Comics constantly receive disrespect.
It’s time to show some respect. This is my tribute to Elite Latino Comedians. Here are the Best in Show Biz…
Cheech Marin
The great Cheech Marin heavily influenced George Lopez. Heck, Lopez stole his theme music. Harold & Kumar pays tribute to Cheech & Chong.
Stoner flicks are a huge success in Hollywood. With the right mix of talent, these comedies will make millions at the box office. Also, consider the merchandising effect.
Cheech can live off his name. Celebrities love to say, “Do you know who I am?” If you’re a celebrity, you can survive from all the free stuff coming your way.
Cheech Marin crowned himself as the Original Latin King of Comedy. He is a V.I.P. in the comedy world. Many of Dave Chappelle’s marijuana jokes come from Cheech.
Paul Rodriguez
I respect Paul Rodriguez’s work ethic. He has played the game for over 30 years. The veteran is still going strong.
I like how Rodriguez has reinvented himself. He’s a serious voice actor. He lent his voice to the El Americano movie debuting in 2015.
And he stands for something, which is rare these days. Nowadays Hollywood stars walk a tightrope. Celebrities are afraid to offend a population segment.
I’ve never seen a comedian connect with an audience as much as Paul Rodriguez. He’s really just a standup guy. Paul will make you laugh until you cry tears of ecstasy.
Joey Medina
Is Joey Medina the funniest Puerto Rican on Earth? I think so. He does tricks on stage like an exotic dancer.
Also, Medina is an Original Latin King of Comedy. Only Cheech Marin and George Lopez outrank him. The multi-talented comedian is a former professional boxer.
He does standup like a fighter against the ropes. Joey unleashes unstoppable uppercuts. His jokes are jabs to your stomach. You’ll laugh like a hyena when he’s done.
The comedian shuns the spotlight. He doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page. But, he’s all over YouTube.
Medina doesn’t masquerade. What you see is what you get. Poof! He disappears and reappears on Navidad.
It’s not a coincidence that celebrities come back to do a Christmas and New Year’s Eve special. Why? Well, what time of year do you spend the most of your money?
Carlos Mencia
Carlos Mencia is the greatest Honduran comedian of all time. The confrontational Latino comic gives it his everything. Because of his original style, Mencia is one of a kind. He delivers his package like the UPS man.

Controversy surrounds Carlos. He liberally uses racial slurs. Sometimes he goes to the point of no return.
Still, he has a golden name. Mencia is larger than life. Have you seen his Comedy Central show?

Mind of Mencia helped elevate the comic to superstar status. TV is a terrific platform to showcase your talent. Mencia took over where Chappelle’s Show left off…His comedy is similar to Dave Chappelle’s in many ways.
George Lopez
I am a long time George Lopez fan. His sitcom displays how hard work pays off in the long run. The George Lopez Show ran for six seasons on ABC.
Although Lopez Tonight only lasted two seasons, it was still a fun ride. Loyal Lopez fans had a blast! Even his haters chuckled during commercials.
Jokes are like recipes. Sometimes you have to let the jokes marinate. The main thing is to get more hits than misses. Otherwise, they’ll boo you off stage.
You see George pushes buttons and that’s great. Any smart comic knows that controversy sells tickets. The difference is Lopez understands his audience like Warren Buffett understands his shareholders.
I see Lopez as a consummate professional. At his standup shows he looks like a CEO at a board meeting. He addresses the crowd like his neighbors.
He means a lot to the Latino community. Lopez doesn’t back away from controversy. He runs toward it like a fireman to a burning house.
Louis C.K.
Louis C.K. tells jokes like George Carlin. He has an effortless style and great material. After a hard day’s work, I recommend Louie.
To say Louis C.K. is an elite Latino comedian is an understatement. He’s high up on my list. To me he is one of the greatest comedians of all time.
The Mexican American comedian is in fact an elitist despite his down-to-earth observations. He’s not out of touch, but he is in the “in-crowd.”  If you have a Forbes page you are definitely elite.
Louis C.K. specializes in dark comedy and satire. He looks like Conan O’Brien’s long lost brother. His empty head of red hair and goatee is his trademark.
I just started watching Louie every week. I enjoy his realistic perspective. When you want a break from political correctness, Louie is the best choice.
Louis C.K is a modern day Mark Twain. He writes with a deliberate purpose. He wants you to think like him.
Gabriel Iglesias
Gabriel Iglesias has a unique flow and word choice. Not only is he an elite Latino comedian, he is in my top 20. As Gabriel’s popularity grows, so does his bank account.
I call him the ‘Original Latin Prince of Comedy.’ How can you argue with success? He sells tickets like clockwork.
Gabriel is everywhere. That’s not a fat joke. You see he is on stage, on TV shows and in movies.
Entertainers should explore the whole Hollywood landscape. Don’t ever limit yourself to just one mode.

Branch off, expand and get bigger.
Mark my words…Gabriel is a top ten comedian in 5 years. As long as he steers clear of drug addiction and alcoholism he’ll be the Lenny Bruce of this generation.

Elite is not a bad word. F*ck is. Comedy is the one place where we frown upon political correctness. So in the words of Eddie Murphy, ‘Fuck it.’
