I decided to write a movie review on The Upside because it contains an important message.We must come to grip with our reality. The Upside is about a wealthy man and a poor man coming to grip with their reality. The two men both lack substance in their lives. On the one hand, the wealthy man seems to have it all. The poor man seems to have nothing. In the end, you’ll find out what true wealth is.

The wealthy man must come to grip with his situation. It isn’t in his power to be able to walk again. It is not his fault he can’t move his body. He must stop being hard on himself. Unfortunately, he needs help doing the little things people often take for granted such as: taking a shower, getting dressed, and eating.

The poor man must face his family. He has neglected them, and he hasn’t fulfilled his potential as a father, husband, and man. He’s made a ton of mistakes. He went to jail and paid his debt though. You can make excuses for him, but he’s failed multiple times. Just because you fail though, doesn’t make you a failure.

Obviously, the wealthy man is a success. That’s why he’s wealthy. He’s wrote books, buys art and loves opera. In his own words, he’s richer than Jay Z, and the man can buy the Brooklyn Nets. He’s both succeeded and failed simultaneously. You see, he can’t move on from his past marriage. In fact, he still wears his wedding ring.

The film is about making connections. The three main characters are played by Kevin Hart, Bryan Cranston, and Nicole Kidman. They are connected, just like we are connected. Everything is connected. The Upside is a love and life story. It is based on a true story. The message is that money can’t buy love or life.

Moreover, The Upside is about fate and faith. What is fate? What is faith? And how are the two concepts connected?

Overall, the acting in the film is phenomenal. The script is heartwarming. Everybody did a beautiful job. To make a movie like this come together takes brilliance.

I give the film a B+. The Upside earns 4 and a half stars out of 5. I think family and friends will enjoy every minute together (like they should) watching this movie. I would watch it twice because the message is very poignant.

Louis C.K. Rolled Into 1 Big Fattie

Do you watch Louie on FX? I used to binge watch episodes every now and then. Louis C.K. is George Carlin, George Lopez, and Jerry Seinfeld rolled into 1 big fattie. The comedian observes life from another lens and a different scope.
Who are your top 10 comedians working today? Louis C.K. makes my top 10 because of his nonchalant style. I like him better than Kevin Hart, who goes overboard sometimes.
Louis C.K. is old fashioned and distinguishable. He gives you just enough. Louie won’t wave a big juicy steak in your face because then you’ll bite off more than you can chew. He’ll feed you one forkful at a time like a true gentleman.
If you appreciate the comedic genius of Kevin James, then Louie is your guy. Comedy is weak without a strong personality. Louis C.K. lays in the cut, but lives on the edge. FX labels his Louie material TVMA (Mature) for this reason.

The comedy business has changed significantly since yesterday. It’s no longer the hardest gig in the entertainment industry. Talented actors have a much harder time than talented comics. You’re not going to make it unless you look like Olivia Wilde and act like Julia Roberts, sorry.
Let’s campaign for more Louis C.K. movies?
Can you imagine Louis C.K., Jim Carrey, and Ricky Gervais in the same movie? Tell me you would go see that flick.
You see Louis C.K. became a standup comic when the tough got going. Back in his day, getting attention from the media (they called it press) was a science. Nowadays, anything can potentially go viral. 

I admire Louis C.K.’s brand of comedy. Louis C.K. blew up. Who could have predicted that he would get this huge? I highly recommend his standups because they tell the truth and nothing but lies.

Who’s Laughing? Dave Chappelle, Marlon Wayans, and Nick Cannon

Previously, I asked who’s wilder and crazier than Russell Brand. Let’s begin with Dave Chappelle. Have you seen Chappelle’s Show? Maybe, you’re like me and have watched every episode.
In one episode, Dave loses a movie role to Nick Cannon (who I will discuss later). It was extremely wild and crazy. Who remembers Wayne Brady’s notable appearances on that TV show? 
I first learned about Chappelle’s Show in high school. The show had just started, and my math teacher kept saying, “I’m Rick James, bitch!” In addition, Chappelle is widely known for his portrayal of Prince.
I believe Dave Chappelle is the funniest standup comic in history. Most people acknowledge Richard Pryor as the most iconic comedian. Without question, all great standups borrow from Pryor. 
I’m not knocking Eddie Murphy, Kevin Hart, or Katt Williams. I study comedy and the people I’ve mentioned are professors. Everybody should appreciate a variety of selections.

Also, we must acknowledge madman Marlon Wayans. The Wayans Brothers sitcom was a classic. Shout out to John Witherspoon.
Marlon Wayans is one of the wildest and craziest comedians in show business. A Haunted House 2 is out of control. When we went to see it, every jaw in the theater dropped. This guy makes thugs with mean mugs crack smiles. He’s off the wall.
No one has a more hilarious Twitter page than Marlon Wayans. That’s why I retweet him often. Plus, he has tweeted over 61,000 times.
Last but not least, Nick Cannon deserves recognition for Wild ‘N Out, America’s Got Talent, and Drumline. Did you know Nick is on radio too? How does he get any sleep?

Moreover, I recommend watching his Showtime specials.
The versatile Nick Cannon is similar to Jamie Foxx. Like Foxx, Cannon has used TV, radio, movie, and Internet platforms to market his brand. While it may seem that he is grandpa’s age, he is actually only 35 years old.
Nick Cannon and Dave Chappelle star in a new “Spike Lee Joint” called Chi-Raq. Samuel L. Jackson (Not Laurence Fishburne) narrates the movie. It debuts December 4th.

In my first semester of undergrad I received all A’s. This hot redhead I hanged with teased, “you’re an overachiever.” I told her I’m only an achiever with 4 different scholarships to maintain.


They say Kevin Hart overachieves too, but he really doesn’t. Like Aziz Ansari, Hart is a scholar of comedy. And he is a rock star.


This comedian made himself into a global brand and universal star. Could he be the first comic to harness solar energy? What does the Let Me Explain comic think about going green?

There’s something bigger and better than money, which drives Kevin Hart into action. Sure, the celeb has a lucrative endorsement with Ford. But like me, what truly drives him is passion.

The Real Husbands of Hollywood celeb achieved a lot. If he’s not on a comedy tour, he’s filming his TV show and movies. Kevin Hart succeeds in the comedy business because he doesn’t quit. Tough competitors outperform others because closing doors ring bells.

After your dreams become reality, what will you do next? Look at the Get Hard and Ride Along actor as a perfect example. Although he could have rested on his laurels, Kevin went on world tours. This man has been everywhere telling everyone his jokes.

I won’t say he makes me laugh harder than Chris Tucker, Tracy Morgan, and Martin Lawrence. I will say he grinds harder than Tony Hawk. Hollywood insiders respect his hustle. Who can challenge the naturally funny man’s supernatural work ethic?

Kevin Hart became a supernova overtime. Early on, he decided Hollywood stardom wasn’t enough. In the process, this superstar built an unrivaled fandom on social media.

What comedian comes close to drawing Kevin Hart’s numbers at shows? He has unmatchable brand/star power. To sum it up, where there’s passion, there’s profit.

Celebrating Will Ferrell’s Greatness

I am an avid Saturday Night Live watcher. While it’s nice to support wild cards occasionally, I unapologetically like New York Yankees baseball, USA Today news, and English muffins. In other words, I believe in winning, tradition, and longevity.
Will Farrell happens to be a Saturday Night Live alumni. Furthermore, his longstanding comedy is outstanding. Whether impersonating George W. Bush or a make-believe character, he makes you laugh. I don’t believe Farrell has a comfort zone because the comedian constantly breaks barriers and exceeds expectations.
Furthermore, the Frat Pack brother rarely disappoints because he is a rare breed in comedy. The Funny Or Die cofounder utilizes multiple streams to reach his audience. Like tires, you must change with the times. Farrell adapts to circumstances.

I vividly remember watching Talladega Nights. It is an unforgettable movie because every character serves a purpose. As NASCAR driver Ricky Bobby, Will Ferrell makes your tears rain.
Moreover, the comedic actor’s performance in Talladega Nightsdeserves special recognition. That’s why it is one of the top 10 comedy moviesof all time. If you want guaranteed laughter directly from your diagram, watch this film. Ricky Bobby epitomizes overconfidence.
Also, the Anchor Man franchise showcases Ferrell’s repertoire of skills. Director Adam McKay stated that a 3rd installment will never happen. However, there are no absolutes in the entertainment industry. Take into consideration that the movie generated $100 million in profit.
The Other Guys, Old School, and Elfbecame instant classics. Will Ferrell style suits well with everybody because he is relatable. Finding consistently bankable movie stars is difficult.
Plus, he is great in Get Hard. Who could have guessed Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart go together like ebony and ivory? You should see Get Hard a 2nd time because the script is intact.

The Martin Lawrence Entertainment Effect

The Martin Lawrence effect is larger than comedy. Martin Lawrence transformed entertainment via television, movies, and popular culture. The great comedian is the best of his generation. Furthermore, Martin is one of the greatest entertainers of all time.
Martin remembers where he started and knows how to finish. He entertains the masses as if they’re one person. Everyone enjoys Martin’s sitcom reruns and standup specials.
1st Amendment Standup showcased upcoming comics. Because Lawrence cultivated talent, the comedian indirectly influences the entertainment world. Regardless of your preferences, Martin Lawrence proves he is the man! Starring in movies ranging from Rated G to Rated R, Martin makes everybody laugh.

Comedy needed a message and a higher power made Martin Lawrence a messenger. Over the years I’ve watched Martin mature into a living legend. His comedy special Run Tell Dat rivals Eddie Murphy’s Delirious and Katt William’s Kattpacalypse.
Initially, I wanted to write a comparison article but after seeing Lawrence’s Inside the Actors Studio, I decided against it realizing his unique character. Truly, Martin Lawrence is one of a kind. How does the Joker throw out an Ace of Spades every hand? Channeling his creativity, craziness is Martin’s strong suit. 
Through the years Martin managed to keep busy. Even Kevin Hart can’t challenge Martin’s depth of work and countless contributions. The original Def Comedy Jam host steps out on stage like Floyd Mayweather, Jr. moves in the boxing ring.
Moreover, Martin Lawrence seems larger than life because of his unmistakable charisma. Like Richard Pryor, the comedic actor appears affable. The Martin sitcom opened doors for Wayans Brothers, Jamie Foxx, and Steve Harvey.

Why Comedians Make the Best Pharmacists

Growing up, they said I was so funny that I should be a standup comedian. Whenever, I heard those words it was sometimes sarcastic. Well, now I take it as a compliment. It’s my calling card. Over the years, I have developed a fond appreciation of comedy. I crave comedy like Harold and Kumar crave White Castle.

How I came to love comedy

Have you ever seen MTV’s Beavis and Butthead? When I was a boy, I watched Beavis and Butthead religiously. Then, more shows like South Park and Family Guygot me, along with one million other teenagers, hooked.  After reaching fifteen years old, I stopped watching cartoons and started watching: The Jamie Kennedy Experiment (JKX), MTV’s Punk’d with Ashton Kutcher and Chappelle’s show. 

The Jamie Kennedy Experiment is creative, unique and different. I recommend that you go on a scavenger hunt and find a few episodes of Jamie Kennedy pranking people.  Also, Jamie Kennedy made a movie at the peak of his fame called Malibu’s Most Wanted. It’s about a young white man acting “black.” 

Punk’d is similar to JKX but more popular. Ashton Kutcher “punks” celebrities in this hidden camera television show. Although Ashton Kutcher got his big break on That 70’s show, Punk’d put him on the map by Hollywood Boulevard. 


The next stop on Hollywood Boulevard is Dave Chappelle. Dave Chappelle is a top five favorite comedian of mine. Without a shadow of a doubt, Chappelle’s Show on Comedy Central is the best comedy show of my generation. His comedy is on the edge. He goes to places no one else ever will. He is as good as standup comedians come. His success is only limited by his potential. 

Why Comedians Make the Best Pharmacists 

“Laughter is the best medicine.” So, comedians are the best pharmacists.  Comedy is universal in appeal. A funny face in New Zealand is just as funny as a face in Nantucket. Comedy is an art form and also a big business. 

Pharmaceutical companies make billions of dollars soothing people’s pain. Believe it or not, comedy can heal you. Recent studies show a correlation between laughter and health. Just crack a few smiles and your cold will go away. 


So, comedians make the best pharmacists because they distribute the pills for your cure. Jokes are pills that comedians hand out to their patients. The audience members are the patients. They are waiting patiently for the right dose of comedy. 

As I get older, I realize that the best comedians not only make a lot of money but they travel the world and live a fun lifestyle. Comedian George Lopez was intoxicated at a Canadian casino. This shows that there are downsides and upsides to the business. If comedy is easy, everyone can do it. Comedy is not easy. It’s hard. 


Comedian Kevin Hart lives by the motto “Everybody wants to be famous but nobody wants to put the work in…” His claim to fame is working harder than anybody else. His hard work has paid off because he is in a ton of movies. 

My top three comedians are Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy and Dave Chappelle. Others such as George Carlin and Katt Williams round out my top five. I love comedy and I believe laughter is the best medicine, and comedians make the best pharmacists.
