Who’s Your Favorite? Favorite 5 Female Comedians
Comedy is an art form and comedians are artists. Let’s appreciate the art of these fine female comedians. They work hard on honing their craft. That’s why it is important we recognize their contributions. Without further ado… here are my favorite 5 female comedians
5.
Tina Fey is my number 5. She would have ranked higher if she were more active. Where are you, Tina? Fans are waiting for another 30 Rock. Still, you can’t take away from her genius. The former Saturday Night Live player holds all the cards. Have you seen her American Express commercials?
4.
My number 4 is Margaret Cho. It’s a shame that she doesn’t get enough recognition. Cho knows how to push your buttons. Her comedy has you on the edge of your seat. Over the years, Margaret Cho has undoubtedly perfected her craft. Have you seen her music videos? Check out this blog post.
3.
Whitney Cummings belongs at number 3. She is the best comedy writer on this list. If I were writing about comedy writers exclusively, she would be number 1. Did you know she is the key to the success of 2 Broke Girls? That show is a part of American culture. As you can see, Whitney Cummings directly impacts pop culture.
2.

At number 2 is Iliza Shlesinger. She is an underrated comedian. It’s about time she got her own TV show. Hook her up, Comedy Central. The standup girl is one of the best standup comedians on this list. Iliza is a natural at making people laugh.

1.
Amy Schumer takes the number 1 spot because she is a workhorse. This list had to include her on top. She’s always making movies and doing standup specials. I recently saw Snatched. I haven’t seen Trainwreck, but I hear it’s hilarious.

Who’s your favorite female comedian? Chime in your comments.

How Richard Pryor Set The World On Fire

BY: GURU JAY
Do you watch the Laugh Factory? Right after a hard day of literally working at the factory, how about watching comedians perform at the Laugh Factory? Richard Pryor was a foreman at the Laugh Factory. He could make standup comics out of clay in the same way Henry Ford made Mustangs out of steel.
Mike Epps and Tracy Morgan owe Richard Pryor’s legacy a fortune. Would there even be an “Eddie Murphy” without Richard Pryor? Did you know Saturday Night Live wanted Pryor as their inaugural host but executives feared the worse? That’s why George Carlin was chosen.
What’s so funny? Everything was a laughing matter with Richard Pryor. The comedy legend made sure his audience was having fun. Pryor is called the best because being funny was his calling. And he was the crème de la crème.
Now you see Steve Harvey doing his thing and it’s all good. What’s more, he doesn’t have a problem saying Richard paved the way for him. Jerry Seinfeld said Richard Pryor was the “Picasso of our profession.” No matter how great a comedian gets, he must acknowledge the great ones.
Have you seen Which Way Is Up, Brewster’s Millions, and Harlem Nights? Richard Pryor movies (and especially his standup specials) must be consumed on an empty stomach. With Pryor laughter comes from the gut. The comedian addressed the most controversial topics all while keeping his cool. His comedy worked because he wasn’t confrontational but observational. Plus, all types of women fell dangerously in love with him.
What was Richard Pryor’s secret to success? He understood people. We cannot overemphasize the importance of interpersonal communication. Pryor knew how to use the right word at the right time, what was better left unsaid, and how to make you feel special.
I’ve seen every Richard Pryor Show episode. Moreover, I can’t go a month’s time without his comedy. Check out Car Wash for a throwback.
Final thought, Richard Pryor almost died after setting himself on fire. Ironically, this same man set the world on fire too! How did he do it? It was an inside job.

Who’s Laughing? Dave Chappelle, Marlon Wayans, and Nick Cannon

BY: GURU JAY

Previously, I asked who’s wilder and crazier than Russell Brand. Let’s begin with Dave Chappelle. Have you seen Chappelle’s Show? Maybe, you’re like me and have watched every episode.
In one episode, Dave loses a movie role to Nick Cannon (who I will discuss later). It was extremely wild and crazy. Who remembers Wayne Brady’s notable appearances on that TV show?
I first learned about Chappelle’s Show in high school. The show had just started, and my math teacher kept saying, “I’m Rick James, bitch!” In addition, Chappelle is widely known for his portrayal of Prince.
I believe Dave Chappelle is the funniest standup comic in history. Most people acknowledge Richard Pryor as the most iconic comedian. Without question, all great standups borrow from Pryor.
I’m not knocking Eddie Murphy, Kevin Hart, or Katt Williams. I study comedy and the people I’ve mentioned are professors. Everybody should appreciate a variety of selections.

Also, we must acknowledge madman Marlon Wayans. The Wayans Brothers sitcom was a classic. Shout out to John Witherspoon.
Marlon Wayans is one of the wildest and craziest comedians in show business. A Haunted House 2 is out of control. When we went to see it, every jaw in the theater dropped. This guy makes thugs with mean mugs crack smiles. He’s off the wall.
No one has a more hilarious Twitter page than Marlon Wayans. That’s why I retweet him often. Plus, he has tweeted over 61,000 times.
Last but not least, Nick Cannon deserves recognition for Wild ‘N Out, America’s Got Talent, and Drumline. Did you know Nick is on radio too? How does he get any sleep?

Moreover, I recommend watching his Showtime specials.
The versatile Nick Cannon is similar to Jamie Foxx. Like Foxx, Cannon has used TV, radio, movie, and Internet platforms to market his brand. While it may seem that he is grandpa’s age, he is actually only 35 years old.
Nick Cannon and Dave Chappelle star in a new “Spike Lee Joint” called Chi-Raq. Samuel L. Jackson (Not Laurence Fishburne) narrates the movie. It debuts December 4th.
Who’s laughing?

30 Minutes or Less Aziz Ansari Celebrity comedy Comedy Central Famous South Carolinians Funny Guru Jay Jay Z Kanye West Netflix Parks & Recreation Rock Star Standup Comedians This Is the End

Why Aziz Ansari Is A Rock Star Of Comedy

BY: GURU JAY

Someone in my family, I won’t name who, repeatedly mistakes the identities of Aziz Ansari and Kal Penn. They share similarities, but there is a distinction. If you haven’t seen Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, you’re only missing out on one of the top 10 comedy movies of all time. I could write an eBook on Harold and Kumar 1, 2, and 3. But, I remind you Aziz Ansari is not the character “Kumar.”
Ansari is a phenomenal standup comedian and actor. Right now you can find his specials on Netflix along with every Parks & Recreation episode. Plus, he is the bomb in 30 Minutes or Less.

I’ve seen all his standups and can attest to his rock star status. The South Carolina native takes you there and everywhere. There is a reason why he’s seen chauffeuring model chicks in that Jay Z and Kanye West music video.

After graduating from New York University, he entered the funny business with all smiles. Frowns are rarely seen coming across his face unless it’s part of a sketch. Like me, he’s a student of comedy, but he practices what he preaches in front of crowds north of 10,000 people. He is a teacher, but not a guru.
Seriously, Aziz is a rock star. I believe Eddie Murphy became the first rock star of comedy. And Aziz is probably the 19th one.

Like him, I’m a Millennial. And I believe he does our generation proud. Ironically, Aziz dominates this digital age by not boasting.
I hope to write blogs as great as his joke telling. His comedy pays homage to Richard Pryor, George Carlin, and Dave Chappelle with an original spin. Who’s watching his Comedy Central Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening exclusive?

In 4 words: This is the End.
