The Definition of Great Music

Great music comes in many forms. Rap, pop, rock, country and jazz are just the tip of the iceberg. Great music is like glaciers in the arctic. It is really the size of Antarctica. It’s not the same as a generation ago, but great music is still there floating…waiting to be discovered. Will you discover it?

Have you ever listened to classical? To define great music, we must look at who controls the music. The Record labels own your ass. I’m sure you heard about how Taylor Swift is rerecording her music. She is thinking outside the box. I feel the record labels don’t want you to be free.

What if Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach were legally bound to a record label. In other news, Hasbro now owns Death Row records. A toy company is the owner of gangsta rap records. If you don’t have a problem with that, you shouldn’t have a problem with Taylor Swift rerecording her music.

Do you think corporations are ruining music? Here are my thoughts. Corporations are actually making music better. Sway doesn’t have the answers, neither does Kanye.

We’re hearing great music from all around the world because of corporations that make it possible for artists to reach the masses. Corporations are sponsoring great music everywhere. Apple Music, VEVO, and Spotify provide great tools for discovery.

I’m also sure you heard Jay Z (ROC Nation) made a deal with the NFL. Jay Z may even become a part-owner of a football team according to TMZ. It’s an interesting development.

The point is everything is changing fast. You gotta keep up with the times. Great music is everywhere. Rihanna is a private flight away from performing at a concert near you. That’s who should do the halftime show if you ask me.

Corporations are not saints. In the end, the bottom line is profit for them. In my opinion, art shouldn’t be corporatized. However, the definition of great music is a profitable sound.

Why We Want Norah Jones

Don’t know why we want Norah Jones? I’ll tell you. We want her for a host of reasons. We want Norah Jones for bragging rights.
Who sings sweeter than the sweetest? Can you keep up with Jones’ sound? The musician can sing in multiple genres. Jazz and Country are her specialties.
Nothing beats her delicate touch. You’ll fall in love with Norah’s pitch. Also, she approaches music with gratitude and respect. It is a privilege to watch this songstress in action.
Listening to Norah Jones defuses stressful days. Moreover, she adds pleasure to many enjoyable moments. Amazing is the best adjective to describe this woman’s work. Shout out to Kate Bush and Maxwell.
Did you know Billboard named Norah Jones Jazz Musician of the decade? This means she bested Kenny G. Could it be that Jones’ voice is a saxophone?
Imagine listening to Chasing Pirates when sailing on a ship. Get lost in the lyrics of Come Away With Me. Throughout her career she’s made the most out of her talent. She never neglected her gifts. Plus, she paid her dues.
Maybe, Miranda Lambert and Jones can get together.
If Miles Davis was the common denominator, then Norah is the common numerator. Simply put, she’s got our number. The celebrity compares favorably to yoga instructors when it comes to flexibility. Others could learn from this special music artist.
Her concerts frequently sell out because the Texas Longhorn is a rare breed. She mixes ingredients better than Samantha stirs stew on Bewitched. Yet, Norah Jones seems pure.
She insists on opening doors rather than closing them. The celebrity can change on command. We value adaptability in entertainers. Who else can cut a song with Carrie Underwood and Herbie Hancock?
In a nutshell, she gives us everything. That’s why we want Norah Jones.

What Esperanza Spalding Can Teach Jhene Aiko

BY: GURU JAY
Ever since the dawn of civilization, music artists have expressed themselves through vocals and instruments. In the Renaissance Era, society experienced classical songs from Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach. The 1960s and 70s produced the Woodstock generation. It’s amazing that after all of these years, billions of folks still listen to music. The fact is music makes us civilized human beings.

One human being with the right stuff is Esperanza Spalding. Originating out of Portland, Oregon, Esperanza enjoys making fun with her soft voice and hardcore strings and instrumentals. Dismissing her as merely a jazz musician doesn’t do anyone any justice. She is also Classical, Hip Hop, Rock, and Pop.
In essence, Esperanza Spalding has bought her freedom to do anything and everything.
Moreover, the music expert can teach Jhene Aiko about the sophistication of creating masterpieces. Hopefully, Jhene will continue climbing up the charts, because she hasn’t peaked yet.
Thankfully, the Los Angeles native is accustomed to sunshine. So Aiko doesn’t fear becoming famous, because she was born in an ecstatic State. That’s why her measure of success is different from the average bear.
It doesn’t hurt that Trey Songz and Big Sean are her neighbors. At the same time, it is practically impossible to love Hollywood unconditionally. That’s when somebody like Spalding comes in and saves Aiko’s cute little face.
You see Esperanza loves entertaining but with conditions. You won’t see the musician apologizing for her expressions and beliefs. Don’t you wish more celebrities were unfiltered like this?
How did we become a coffee addicted world used to filters? The reason you see celebs deleting their tweets is because they’re not in control. Occasionally you’ll find audacious and outspoken celebs, but the media discounts them, and doesn’t send their messages to the people. I go to Taylor Swift Google Plus and Twitter, because I want to know what’s going on in her mind and not a corporation.
If the ‘Eternal Sunshine’ singer follows Spalding’s teachings, then we don’t need to worry.
Fortunately, music makes sense out of the incomprehensible. Do you believe humanity might come to a standstill without song and dance?

Like Salsa entertainers, Esperanza Spalding and Jhene Aiko blend up their compositions. Spalding should insure her gifted hands for $10 million. Furthermore, she can teach Aiko all about Jazz, and how to play the cello. Aren’t both girls dazzling creatures?
If Esperanza is a sweet potato pie, then Aiko tastes like the rainbow. When you’re an unsolved mystery, people turn into detectives. How much do we actually know about celebs?
Why is Spalding so intriguing? Is it because the musician isn’t entirely forthcoming? Only a select few know about Esperanza’s secret. If Jhene Aiko demonstrates a willingness to learn, I’m sure Esperanza will divulge information.
I like Jhene because she thinks about the long haul. Take her ‘I Know’ music video for example. But you must live in the now!
In this day and age, pop culture has amassed untold riches and powers. Everything has a slant. If you want to be on top, grind the edges everyday.

Don’t just talk about it; determine what is your calling card. Aiko needs to focus first on the art like Esperanza. If she produces works of art, then she’ll be in the best position to take care of business down the line. It’s a long journey, but I believe these superstars are on the right track.

Why Miles Davis Was the Common Denominator

BY: GURU JAY

If you’re stressed out, listen to jazz and relax. Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and Miles Davis settle the soul. Pain starts in the brain, and beautiful music is a proven painkiller.
It is important to put your mind at ease. Do you take time to reflect? Whether it is meditation, yoga, or prayer find Nirvana.
The world is changing rapidly. People are facing unthinkable situations. What should you do?
You can use music to escape this invisible prison. Miles Davis was the warden of Jazz. This post pays tribute to the legendary composer.
Miles Davis
If I could write the way Miles Davis composed music, I’d have no problems that my words couldn’t solve. The gifted and talented music artist excelled because celebrities esteemed him. It’s one thing for your fans to adore you. It’s all together different when your peers approve you.

When Miles blew his trumpet, everyone stopped to admire his virtuosity. Gratefully, he stayed active and visible until passing away at age 65. Although his body is gone, his spirit keeps on giving.
What are your favorite Jazz musicians and songs? Have you heard In a Sentimental Mood? Can you imagine life back then without music?
How difficult was it for Miles Davis to survive Jim Crow and the Civil Rights eras? As a black man, Davis couldn’t even book a room in some of the hotels where he performed. Don’t you think Jazz music can save the downtrodden?
What is more, Miles Davis represented change. Before America decided against segregation, Jazz integrated all races, beliefs, and creeds. His impact on pop culture is evident in Hip-Hop.
Did you know Miles Davis mastered many instruments besides the trumpet? The legendary bandleader blessed us on the piano, organ, flugelhorn, and synthesizer. You see he was made to make music.

I believe music is the common denominator of society. Good music is colorblind. Why not appreciate Miles Davis and Jazz together?

How Saxophonist Kenny G Perfected Smooth Jazz

BY: GURU JAY

I learned how to write poetry in the 5th grade. My teachers entered my poems into statewide contests. Fortunately I won a few of those.
Poetry stretches the creative mind and imagination. Picture life without words, rhythm, metaphors, and pentameters. How would you make sense of living and reality?
While growing up, I rarely listened to rock or rap music. I played jazz in my old portable CD player. Do you remember the Walkman?
Right after listening to Kenny G, I would write poetry because the saxophonist inspired me. Inspirational music serves multiple purposes. First of all, more souls seek daily inspiration. Second, motivational music itself cures boredom, frustration, and negativity.
Has Kenny G even played a negative note? Kenny mostly orchestrates positive moods, good spirits, and good vibrations. What is more, his long and illustrious career speaks volumes about his musical influence.
By my 15thbirthday- early 2000s, I heard every Kenny G album in existence. There is still something magical about saxophones. The jazz musician breathes life into his instruments.
Kenny G is a poet who specializes in smooth jazz on the soprano saxophone. His style is similar to the magnetic Adam Levine. He makes his hardware sound like Christina Aguilera.
Kenny G built his fandom by becoming the Microsoft of smooth jazz. Yes, Bill Gates created a monopoly with Windows. And, in the same way, Kenny G was the foremost saxophonist.
Christmas 2000, my mother asked me “What do you want for a present?” I’ll never forget receiving more than what I asked for. My parents gave me the Britney Spears Oops!…I Did It Again album, a stereo, and a Yamaha keyboard. I’ve always loved music since a youngster because music improves your quality of life.

Wouldn’t the world be a safer place if more young people listened to Kenny G and smooth jazz instead of Marilyn Manson?
