Sofía Vergara, Eva Longoria, and Brand/ Star Power

Warning
How dirty is Hollywood’s politics? How shady is Hollywood’s business? Are you sure you want to work in this entertainment industry?

Sofía Vergara is a bigger brand but Eva Longoria is a brighter star. There is a clear distinction between brand and star power. The brand will last long after the star has burnt out.
Did you know Vergara gets paid to drink Diet Pepsi? Also, Sofía stars in Rooms to Go commercials. Plus, she is a Cover Girl.

Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Pressley, and Bob Marley died but their image and likeness lives on through merchandising. I respect Sofía Vergara’s brand and marketing. Sources say Vergara has a net worth of $85 million and counting. In comparison, estimates put Eva Longoria’s value at $35 million.
I wonder sometimes whether Longoria realizes her star power, because she’s seriously underutilizing her famous name. Nonetheless, I applaud the celebrity’s charitable activities. What is more, I believe her philanthropy is making a difference.
By no means is Eva the perfect role model. However, she gladly confronts challenging issues. Plus, Eva seems humble.

I like Sofía but she appears overconfident. Nobody is above the law of Father Time. At some point beauty fades fast. I’m not saying Vergara can’t act, but Longoria is better.
Doesn’t Sofía deserve recognition for Modern Family? The Colombian-American plays her part terrifically. Latinos should embrace Vergara with open arms. It’s amazing the highest paid TV star is Latina.
I consider Longoria and Vergara the TV version of Cameron Diaz and Jessica Alba. Like Diaz and Alba, they are both dazzling and in high demand. So, why aren’t Eva and Sofía in more movies?

I’ve heard Hot Pursuit starring Reese Witherspoon and Sofía Vergara is giggle-filled. Furthermore, Frontera is some of Eva Longoria’s best work. Do you see why Sofía and Eva are the best Latina actresses?

Taraji P. Henson Vs. Tracee Ellis Ross: Who’s Watching Empire and Blackish?

BY: GURU JAY
I reserve Wednesday nights for Taraji P. Henson and Tracee Ellis Ross. TV turn-ons Tracee and Taraji bring a lot to the table. It’s unfair Empire and Blackish airs at the same time.
Who remembers Baby Boy and Girlfriends? Baby Boy is a movie starring Tyrese Gibson as lead actor, and Taraji P. Henson is lead actress. The film features Snoop Dogg and Omar Gooding (Cuba’s younger brother) in key roles. Moreover, Ross plays the lead character in Girlfriends, one of TV’s longest running shows. Fan crazed Game sitcom came from Girlfriends.

It’s wonderful turning on the TV and seeing two dynamic actresses. I believe Taraji P. Henson is one of the best actors in the business. Who’s seen the Curious Case of Benjamin Button? I also acknowledge Tracee Ellis Ross as one of the best comedic actors.
People are fascinated by Tracee’s long legs and hair and Taraji’s perfect silky skin. The beautiful actresses are the backbones of their respective shows. The Empire TV show causes millions of eyeballs to pop from astonishment. And, Blackish simultaneously creates ear popping effects from relentless laughter.

What’s will happen after Halle Berry’s Extant comes back this summer? Hopefully, you have On Demand, or someway to catch everything. With the intro of 3D/ Smart TVs, does it take a rocket scientist to figure out the best acting is returning home?

I believe the TV bubble will burst in 5 years. Show business is saturated and too competitive. If it stays like this, you’ll see a Screen Actors Guild strike.

Despite my reservations, Taraji P. Henson will always have a job on TV or in film. In case you’re wondering, I prefer Empire over Blackish. But, it’s unacceptable that the shows air during the same time slot and day. I like Tracee but the Blackish Girlfriend can’t compete with His Imperial Majesty and Cookie.

5-4-3-2-1: Top TV Actresses Countdown

BY: GURU JAY
5. Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting

Hot Hollywood starlet Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting starts the countdown. The ‘Wedding Ringer’ actress excels at comedy. Fortunately, she smartly decided to branch off into movies.

In accounting, they say diversify income streams. Kaley has done exactly that. Still, her plentiful talents obviously belong on television.
Cuoco could dominate TV like Jennifer Aniston. But, Sheldon Cooper overshadows the bright actress. Maybe, studio executives should create a spinoff starring Cuoco-Sweeting.

4. Lena Dunham

‘Girls’ creator Lena Dunham tries everything. The professional writer, actress, producer and director is diversified. The opinionated woman and unwavering feminist spreads her message.
3. Zooey Deschanel

‘New Girl’ lead actress Zooey Deschanel tickles many funny bones. Like Kaley, Zooey’s television work demands respect. Also, Deschanel commands attention from her 6 million plus Twitter followers.
2. Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington portrays powerful campaign consultant Olivia Pope on the sensational TV drama ‘Scandal.’ Political zealots understand why Washington’s second on the countdown.
1. Sofia Vergara

‘Modern Family’ matriarch Sofia Vergara receives a hefty salary. However, the Colombian celebrity is worth every penny. Sofia sacrificed several years; and now Vergara is the top TV actress. I am Guru Jay launching off into orbit in 5-4-3-2-1!

The 90s Movies and TV

BY: GURU JAY

Movies

The first movie I remember watching is Who Framed Roger Rabbit. That was in the late eighties.
I was a toddler when the studios released the classic funny bunny movie. The film came on TV all of the time. So, as a child I learned Roger Rabbit’s lines verbatim.
If you were alive in the 1980’s, I don’t have to tell you those were tough times. There was a stock market crash in 1987. I had a college teacher who lost $50,000 during the free fall. Fortunately, I was born in the 1980s and raised in the 1990s.
Enter the 90s. The 90s were a prosperous time in American History. The 1990s were a lot like the 1920s.
The 90s were animated. Animation equals domination. I can’t forget about the Lion King or Toy Story. Disney films made a major impact in movie history.
Here are a few good movies from the 90s: Titanic, Who’s Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle, and Forrest Gump. In the words of the family guy Archie Man, “those were the days.”

TV
Don’t get me started on 90’s TV shows. This was the best time to be a kid. We had enough cartoons to sink a battleship.
I used to watch Saved By the Bell and Power Rangersbefore going to school. I’d come home and watch Full House. Who remembers when Boy Meets World aired on T.G.I.F.? Who knows the Step By Step theme song word for word?
Expect more remakes and reruns from the 1990s.
