NBC SNL Episode 2 Breakdown: Was This One Great?

NBC SNL Episode 2 Breakdown: Was This One Great?

Let’s begin the breakdown recognizing SNL Host Michael B. Jordan and musical guest Lil Baby. Last weekend Aubrey Plaza did a fantastic job hosting the TV show. This weekend was Jordan’s turn. Would he bring as much energy or even more? Everybody had an expectation for him. What was yours?

I felt Michael B. Jordan was going to slam dunk this one. Like the superstar he is, Jordan’s crossover to live television was a no brainer. Before writing this blog post, I learned more about the actor and published another blog post you might enjoy. Who knew the extent of his television presence? The Creed III Director/ Lead Actor possesses a multitude of talents.

It was a solid opening for episode 2. SNL covered the latest in politics as usual and got the ball rolling.  Not too long after Michael B. Jordan came onto the stage, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, and Ego Nwodim came on or should I say came on to him. So far, the TV show was hilarious. Saturday Night Live knows how to play up every tool in their toolkit. By far the funniest thing was Ego showing up on stage in a wedding dress. This one was great. The material was well-written from start to finish. Like Creed, the night was packed with punches.

Was Lil Baby Pretty Good?

When Lil Baby took the stage to perform the hit California Breeze, it was a wrap. Saturday Night Live had me sold on the night. Michael B. Jordan owned it. Every sketch delivered a ton of value. Just like I tweeted before the show even started, this was TV gold. There were so many elements that combined to make this work seem effortless.

What Was the Skit That Stole the Night?

If there’s one prerecorded skit that stole the night, it was Michael B. Jordan playing the State Farm guy. I tweeted that the insurance companies owe SNL money. All that advertisement can’t be free. This had to generate the most responses on Twitter because everybody was talking about it. Overall, Jordan was all over the place demonstrating his range. He played a water guy and a fireman. Well, he played a stripper dressed as a firefighter with pregnant baby mama issues.

Last But Not Least

What else should an SNL TV show watcher know about after episode 2? Kenan Thompson had his moment playing a doorman on Weekend Update. Colin Jost and Michael Che are a good team. Lil Baby’s second song was a little more dramatic. It told a story and could crossover genres. Whoever was his pianist was incredible.

What are your thoughts? Did you watch SNL this weekend? Are you looking forward to next weekend’s host Pedro Pascal from HBO’s The Last of Us?

Michael B. Jordan Is One of the Best Actors

Pay attention to Michael B. Jordan!

If you’re an actor or a fan, you must see him shine. On my blog, I’ll see to it that his star shines bright as ever. What more does Jordan have to do for me to convince you he is one of the best of his generation? Here’s an actor whose filmography stands up to the best of them. Talk about Creed I, II, and now III. Plus, there’s Fruitvale Station and Journal for Jordan. His acting skills are on another level. He’s untouchable and unstoppable. Add Black Panther to the fold and we have an amazing entertainer.

I really like his performance in Journal for Jordan.

Inspired by true events, the film that Denzel Washington directed highlights the best of emotions and raw feelings. The actor does an outstanding job playing a U.S. Army first sergeant. You would think he completed basic training at the very least. What separates Michael B. Jordan from other actors is preparation and dedication. In addition, he is believable as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. Without Remorse is a must-see movie. You’ll enjoy Jodie Turner-Smith in the supporting actress role as well.

Are you a fan of the actor? How long have you followed his career?

Maybe he’s been on my radar for about a decade. I wasn’t too familiar with his work on the Wire. But now, I’m intrigued to look back on his earlier television roles and more. It’s always interesting to see how much a celebrity develops their craft. Jordan can play the superstar (Jack Ryan) or the sidekick (Killmonger). With a reach like his, he can impact the masses with a social media post or PSA.

Tonight, on Saturday January 28, 2023, Michael B. Jordan will host NBC Saturday Night Live (SNL). Are you looking forward to seeing him perform as much as I am?

I can’t wait to see the surprises in store for the audience. Also, I may Tweet like last weekend just for fun. Of course, there’s a chance I might give a pop quiz. Now is Michael B. Jordan’s time to shine. Saturday Night Live selected him for a reason. Doesn’t he have magnetic power? Stars attract attention…lots of it…some call it gossip.

This celebrity is in the entertainment news by personal choice. Do you think Jordan thinks about how much SNL will extend his reach? Or do you think a celebrity of his caliber only cares about awards and merits such as Golden Globes, Emmys, and Academy Awards. What drives him to work every day as hard as he does? Have you seen photos and videos of this man working out in the gym? That’s why I say he’s untouchable and unstoppable. He has a never quit mentality that transfers to the silver screen.

He and director Ryan Coogler have a strong bond. They should work on more films together. Also, I feel Michael B. Jordan has a great chemistry with Creed costar Tessa Thompson. I love seeing them share the big screen. Finally, I can’t wait to watch Creed III on March 3, 2023. Did you know Jordan directed this one on his own?

Put Aubrey Plaza on the To Do List This Weekend!

What are you doing this weekend? Do you want to have some fun? Read this!

Put the 2013 The To Do List actor on the 2023 To Do List! I’m referring to the Hollywood star Aubrey Plaza. She is hosting NBC’s Saturday Night Live on January 21, 2023. Here at Guru Jay Entertainment, we’re going to see to it that she shines as bright as possible. I write about celebrities because I like celebrating. Aubrey Plaza is someone who excites the audience. You come to expect great things from this entertainer. I love her work. She works hard and it shows. Some may even say she’s a little showoff, but I disagree.

So, where did this celebrity come from? Well, we know she was a regular on Parks and Recreation. But did you also know she was an intern on Saturday Night Live in 2005? I found that out via watching the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The point is everybody starts from somewhere. Where you go is up to factors: some beyond your control and others within. I like Plaza’s touch to productions. Have you seen the star perform in Fx’s Legion?

If you enjoy comedy and Elizabeth Olsen, I encourage you to watch Ingrid Goes West. It’s an intriguing plot with dynamic characters and a nice setting. Also, if you want to see some of Plaza’s newer material, queue Black Bear and Emily the Criminal. Lastly, everybody is talking about the actress in the White Lotus.

Plus, the comedic actor’s body of work is full of successes. If she had a gym franchise, it would be worth over a billion dollars. I’m looking forward to seeing her SNL performance. It’s long overdue.

Let’s have some fun this weekend and watch SNL hosted by Aubrey Plaza. LET AUBREY PLAZA SHINE.

Who Is the Funniest Amy? Amy Poehler Vs. Amy Schumer

BY: GURU JAY

If you don’t exercise your funny bone, you risk losing your sense of humor. Next time you workout on the treadmill watch a funny clip of Amy Poehler or Amy Schumer. Who is the best blonde comic?
The comedy world is shifting on the axis of comediennes. Comics consider Amy Poehler as one of the best improv acts in the business. Moreover, Amy Schumer’s standup prowess compares to Jerry Seinfeld and Louis CK.
I must disclose I’m a big Saturday Night Live fan. I’ve admired Amy Poehler for a long time. Her Hillary Clinton impersonation is flawless. Although I wasn’t a Park & Recreation addict, sometimes I checked on the Baby Mama actor.
I recently finished watching back-to-back Schumer standup specials. She may have stolen some jokes from Aziz Ansari, but I don’t care. That’s how comedians play their games.

 Photos By: Wikimedia Commons

Right now, hot chicks have monopolized comedy. We have Whitney Cummings, Rebel Wilson, Sarah Silverman, and Tina Fey to support. Who can forget Amy’s Secretary Clinton alongside Tina’s Governor Palin on SNL?

Will the blonde reprise her role as presidential candidate when the election cycle comes and goes? Or will a newcomer take the gig? If it were up to me, Amy would impersonate Hillary forever.
I believe Poehler is underrated and Schumer is overrated. The younger blonde still has a lot left to prove. Can Schumer’s onstage success translate over onscreen? Can Poehler perform stronger standup?
Sometimes Schumer seems desperate for attention. You rarely see Eddie Murphy voluntarily making headlines. Let’s blame Kathy Griffin, whose whole strategy consists of shocking people and going overboard.
In all fairness, it’s too early to do an unbiased comparison of the comedians. Plus, Poehler has already established her calling cards with SNL and P&R. So, let’s do a 2 for 1 bundle of joy. Continue tuning in to see Inside Amy Schumer. In this competitive arena, Schumer is currently overcoming obstacles.

ABC Celebrity comedy Conan O'Brien David Letterman Funny Guru Jay Hollywood Jay Leno Jimmy Fallon Jimmy Kimmel late show NBC SNL Stephen Colbert tonight show TV TV and Showbiz

Who’s Watching? Jimmy Kimmel Vs. Jimmy Fallon

BY: GURU JAY

Jimmy Kimmel doesn’t go on live, though they call his show Jimmy Kimmel Live. Imagine Saturday Night Live prerecording episodes. Despite this misleading title, I shamefully watch Kimmel more often than the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Overall, Kimmel built a better platform because the offbeat comedian surrounds himself with terrific talents from Cousin Sal to Guillermo to Matt Damon. Fallon works harder and relies on himself more than others. Sometimes, Fallon seems exhausted as if he’s burning out like birthday candles in Antarctica.
Kimmel’s sense of humor is more sustaining, although Fallon is the most entertaining  What will happen when Stephen Colbert takes over after David Letterman? Can Colbert compete with awaken forces Fat Jimmy and Slim Jim? Who’s ratings will nosedive?

 Photos By: Wikimedia Commons

From this point forward I’ll occasionally address Kimmel as Big Jimmy and Fallon as Slim Jim. Big Jimmy built his show from scratch, while Slim Jim took part of a hostile takeover. Conan O’Brien should have been bigger than Johnny Carson. Is that the real reason why Jay Leno stalled Conan’s initiation ruining the Tonight show’s ratings and standing?

I understand Conan has a huge ego, but Colbert’s ego isn’t any larger. O’Brien was simply the best. In fact, Conan was ABC’s worst nightmare.
Slim Jim is highly creative and wildly talented. But Fallon took a shortcut on the roads to riches- road blocking Conan O’Brien. NBC’s executives have made disgusting decisions. Although Fallon serves as a wonderful host, look at how this network treated past hosts and tell me if Slim Jim won’t get eaten alive.
In the end, Big Jimmy is victorious because he’s well established in Hollywood. The real debate is whether the new CBS Late Show with Stephen Colbert can put the Tonight Show to bed. While I’m a Jimmy Fallon fan, I won’t watch NBC until they act right.

Thank Heaven I Don’t Have Ebola. I Got Saturday Night Live Fever!

Thank Heaven I Don’t Have Ebola. I Got Saturday Night Fever!

Do you watch Saturday Night Live (SNL)? Can you believe this is the 40th year? What if SNL lasted to the 100th season?
SNL is the best live TV show. There are many copycats but make no mistake; there is only one Saturday Night Live. Creator Lorne Michaels built a respectable show for the ages.
Regardless of your preferences, you must respect SNL. It functions like a fraternity. Feature players are pledges; and Kenan Thompson is President of the Greek Council. Vanessa Bayer is Vice President.
SNL is in a rebuilding process. The show needs to remember their writers are only as good as their actors. Stop making casting changes. Stick to the script. And perform to the tee.
If Tiger Woods can come to a ruin, so can Saturday Night Live. Empires do collapse. And SNL is the Imperial Majesty of sketch comedy.
I’m a long time SNL fan. I won’t give up on the show because of one bad year. It’s like football. The team can stage a comeback next season.
Saturday Night Live discovers top triple threat talents. It’s not unusual for cast members to sing, dance, and play guitar or piano.
Did you know late night hosts Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers started on SNL? Conan O’Brien served as a writer. The show takes good care of their alumni.

Let’s talk about Andy Samberg, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler. All three former repertory players received their own TV showsWhat if they were never on SNL?
Alumni Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy and Adam Sandler have had successful movie careers. Lorne Michaels is a miner, because Saturday Night Live finds diamonds in the rough. And Bobby Moynihan is a jeweler.
Jay Pharaoh owns a pawnshop. His Uncle Tim Meadows helps manage the shady business. While sister Shasheer Zamata trades in her jewels for dough, her brother Chris Rock explains why as a black man he loves diamond chains so much.
Alec Baldwin Vs. Steve Martin
If you watch SNL regularly, you are aware of the rivalry between Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin. Baldwin is winning. Overall, he has hosted SNL 16 times compared to Martin’s 15.
Because Baldwin had a major role on 30 Rock, Saturday Night Live gave him the opportunity to break the record. What if Steve got a part on Parks & Recreation? SNL could call that shot.
Pull up the archives. Look at the evolution of these actors. You can literally see Hollywood stars transform before your very eyes.
Saturday Night is a critical moment in a celebrity’s career. Without it, Steve and Alec would have normal star power. Now, they shine bright like diamonds.
I tip my hat off to Steve Martin. Although Alec is ‘winning’, Martin’s performances are more valuable because he is a real thorough comedian. The cast can relax with Martin behind the wheel.
Christopher Walken

I can’t wait for Christopher Walken to take the stage. When he presents, bad things happen in a good way. He is a good old fashion actor.
SNLshould book the multi-talented star one more time. Whether Broadway or Hollywood, no one delivers better than Walken. Wherever Walken’s walking, it is prime real estate baby!

I love it when former repertory players come back to host. In 2008, Tina Fey returned to SNL in style. Who could forget Tina’s impersonation of Sarah Palin? I believe 2008 was the best year in history.
Looking back, Saturday Night Live made more millionaires than Forbes Celebrity. SNLAlumni and Funny or Die Co-Founder Will Ferrell is set for life. He doesn’t have to worry at all.

He is the best George W. Bush impersonator. His movies are crazier than a Bessie bug. And he’s funnier than 7.124 billion people.
And so, I nominate Will Ferrell President of World Wide Web Comedy.

It seems that Saturday Night Live runs the whole industry. They have their hands in everything. They’re the opposite of TMZ.
Stars hate paparazzi like TMZ; but they love Saturday Night in New York like a refugee.
You’re not a celebrity, until you appear on SNL. If you haven’t been on the show, sit down and talk to your agent. Seriously, SNL is where stars shine brightest. It’s a magical experience.

Fred Armisen is among my all time favorites. He excels at sketch comedy. He is exceptional.
He impersonated President Obama perfectly. I wish Fred had stayed a few more seasons. He could have taught Jay Pharaoh his secrets.

By the way, Jay is coming along nicely.

Maya Rudolph should have stayed a little longer. Although she had a long and prosperous 7 years, she was still highly productive. She left way too early.
It was hard replacing Maya Rudolph. Smart, beautiful and funny is an unlikely combination.

Maya is still a triple threat.
Rudolph paved the way for Nasim Pedrad. Nasim took shortcuts on the road to stardom because of Maya’s past work. Even though SNL welcomes competition, there isn’t any animosity within the show. It’s all one big family.
Niches = Riches
Money is in niches. Through the years SNL cultivated invaluable niches in holidays and politics. Around Thanksgiving, Christmas and U.S. election cycles the best episodes air.

Old cast members like to popup on Christmas. It’s their way of saying I’m gifted. Dressed in sweaters they sing I Wish It Was Christmas Today. It’s funny to see Jimmy Fallon back on Saturday night.
Get well soon Tracy Morgan.
Who remembers Horatio Sanz’s Saddam Hussein impersonations? Saturday Night lives on the edge. Sometimes SNL crosses the line.
And, that’s the beauty of the First Amendment. Free speech is protected. Just don’t yell ‘I got Ebola on an airplane.’
I love it when musicians host and sing the same night. That’s what you call getting your money’s worth. Justin Timberlake does it best.

Who watches Saturday Night Live? Do you want to join my fan club? Thank heaven I don’t have Ebola. I got Saturday Night fever!
