Remembering Chadwick Boseman

The Marvel universe misses Chadwick Boseman. The real universe misses Boseman. I miss Chad. He came to Hollywood like a meteor. He was a movie star in every sense of the word. His meteoric rise in movies is felt in all the galaxy. As King T’challa in Black Panther, he gave children all around the world a superhero to admire. And he was self-conscious of the roles he accepted. He wasn’t acting just for a paycheck. Chad had a passion for the craft. He respected it, and it respected him.

Chadwick Boseman, the actor, earned a degree in directing. Who knew? He was also classically trained in Oxford England, where he received sponsorship from none other than Denzel Washington. He gave us a lot in a short period. It is sad how he died of cancer. This news stunned all of his fans. Boseman had a solid global fan base for good reason.

Let’s remember Chadwick Boseman in this space. Who could forget his portrayal of Jackie Robinson in 42?  I (for one) sure can’t. Do you remember his brilliance as James Brown in Get on Up? What about his performance in Marshall? How did he pull that one off? Chad was brilliant at playing real-life heroes because he was a hero all this time.

Born in Anderson, South Carolina, the hometown hero was electric. Despite having colon cancer, Boseman went to work, where he contributed greatness. His performances in films such as 21 Bridges and Da 5 Bloods showcase a wide range of talent. He made a major impact on the film industry because there was no one else quite like him in Hollywood. Tons of actors never “make it,” but Boseman made it. He was driven. That drive is unexplainable. It comes from within; but, it is not without. Fortunately, the universe never really loses a star. His art will live on forever!

2019 Oscars Predictions

2019 Oscars Predictions

The Oscars are upon us. The 2019 nominees are in. And there isn’t a host for the show. But I expect a fun atmosphere and some surprises. There are a lot of questions and I have the answers. Who will win? Who will lose? I answer these questions and more in this article.

If you watched the Golden Globes, you have a good idea about the potential winners and losers of the Oscars also known as the Academy Awards. The Golden Globes are a placeholder for the movie award season. Earning one is a big deal. Still, having earned one isn’t a necessary requirement for winning an Oscar.

In fact, A Star Is Born was snubbed at the Golden Globes. However, I predict the film will win an Academy Award. I feel Bradley Cooper deserves an Oscar. Plus, Lady Gaga is dominating headlines right now.

Let’s start the discussion with Best Picture. 2018 was a great year in movies. How do you go about selecting only one for the grand prize? Black Panther made the most money at the box office. Shouldn’t the number 1 film win the Best Picture?

Some say the box office numbers are just one component of the Oscars. I say numbers aren’t everything, but there is power in numbers. Sometimes movies are ahead of their time like Scarface. Bohemian Rhapsody is a worthy contender.
Vice doesn’t impress me at all. And I think The Favouriteis a classic script. With the popularity of Netflix on the rise, I boldly predict Roma will win an award, but not Best Picture. Best Picture belongs to Black Panther.

Next, I believe Spike Lee should win Best Director for BlackkKlansman. It is a controversial film based on a true story. The movie is about a black man joining the KKK. This is Spike Lee’s time. Moreover, Jordan Peele’s involvement as a producer should help the cause.

Best Actor should go either to Bradley Cooper or Rami Malek in my opinion. I’m ready to say Bradley Cooper wins outright. Right now, he has the upper hand at this point in the award season.

I believe Best Actress goes to Olivia Colman. Hollywood has a habit of following trends, and Olivia Colman is trending for better or worst. Best Supporting Actor should go to Mahershala Ali. He is a fantastic actor and Green Book is an outstanding movie. It would shock me if he doesn’t win.

The word on the street is that Regina King will win Best Supporting Actress for her performance in If Beale Street Could Talk. After many years of being absent from “film”, she rightfully earned her onscreen nomination.

Here’s where Netflix comes into play. I feel Best Original Screenplay should go to the brilliant Alfonso Cuaron. Roma is too good to ignore. Roma may also win Best Foreign-Language Film as well.

Moreover, Bradley Cooper and Eric Roth will likely win for Best Adapted Screenplay. A Star Is Born is beautifully written. It should earn multiple awards.
Finally, RBG just might win Best Documentary and Best Cinematography goes to Never Look Away.
In 33 days, you’ll know if my Oscars Predictions were on target. Maybe, you have your own predictions that you want to share. Chime in comments.

2018 is an exciting year for movies. There are a wide variety of film selections scheduled to be released this year. So, how do you go about managing what to see? I’ve got you covered with the 10 Must-See Movies of 2018.

Black Panther starring Chadwick Boseman debuts February 16. Marvel is making an unbelievable adventure by introducing interesting characters to their film franchise. Plus, the whole setting reminds me of Pandora in Avatar. Check out the trailers that reveal Entourage as well as the secrets of Wakanda.

Tomb Raider starring Alicia Vikander opens March 16. You must see this Swedish actress act at her finest. It’s all about her.

Pacific Rim Uprising debuts March 23. If you’re into technology, robots, action and the future then this is a must-see movie for you. John Boyega takes the lead. Maybe, he’ll win an award.

Avengers: Infinity War is another Marvel Studios production fans are looking forward to seeing. It debuts May 4. Judging by the trailers, there is an exciting twist where Guardians of the Galaxy come into play. The star studded cast has great expectations.

Solo: A Star Wars Story tells a tale about the legendary Star Wars hero. Star Wars fans will definitely see this one- even if they have to go solo. This must-see movie comes out May 25.

Check out Ocean’s 8 coming to theaters near you on June 8. It is a must-see movie for the simple fact it’s an all-female cast. I expect the movie to break records like Ghostbusters.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the most highly anticipated summer movie for sure. People couldn’t get enough of the first one. Chris Pratt has proven why he is a hot commodity alongside Bryce Dallas Howard. You can see this movie for the first time starting on June 22.

Mission Impossible: 6 starring Tom Cruise comes out on July 27. What more could you want from an action movie? You have the ultimate action movie star plus an intriguing storyline and plot.

On November 2, X-Men: Dark Phoenix arrives at theaters. Fans can’t wait to enjoy Jennifer Lawrence on the silver screen. Plus, the film franchise always sets the bar high.

Last but not least, Aquaman debuts December 21. It will probably takeover the winter box office news. Comic book lovers should be pleased with Jason Momoa’s take on the character.

So there you have it. These are the 10 must-see movies of 2018. I hope you get to watch some of these. Peace.

Ant-Man Black Panther Captain America Chadwick Boseman Chris Evans Civil War Guru Jay Hollywood Iron Man Jeremy Renner Marvel movie review Movies Robert Downey Jr. Scarlett Johansson Spider-Man Trailer

Captain America: Civil War Movie Review

BY: GURU JAY
The concept of merging all the superheroes into one movie is brilliant, but it could be executed better. There are some phenomenal scenes in Civil War. However, some scenes are easily forgettable.
I feel the actors are excellent. Moreover, producers should place more emphasis on Scarlett Johansson and Elizabeth Olsen. How does the writer determine who gets the best lines?
The face-offs and toe-to-toes are unbelievable. Chris Evans aka Captain America has a chance to end Iron Man, as we know him. All this occurs because a doctor wants to play games.
Chadwick Boseman makes a great appearance as Black Panther. He saves Scarlett Johansson’s ass (which is for the good of humanity). Everything happens too fast. That’s my biggest critique.
Slow it down a little and let the audience’s eyes focus on the target. Anthony Mackie livened it up as always. Plus, Jeremy Renner shined.
Who am I forgetting? Oh yeah, that guy Robert Downey Jr. The number 1 movie star does not disappoint as Iron Man. He has swagger.

Civil War is like seeing 10 Marvel movies at the same time. Also, Spider-Man appears in this edition of Captain America.
I believe the directors held back and they could have delivered more content. Maybe, they’re saving up for next time, which is an acceptable strategy. Did you see Avengers: Age Of Ultron? How does it compare to this?
Can you imagine them filming on the beach? Location. Location. Location. I like how the great white letters showcased the locations. Details can make or break a film of high caliber.
Also, remember to stay during the closing credits because there’s an extra scene packed in. You can’t complain about the ending. All loose ends get tied together.
Overall, I give the movie a C+. Although it had a lot of style, it had just a little bit of substance. It was definitely entertaining though.
