Why George Lopez Is Champion

BY: GURU JAY

Who are your five favorite standup comedians? George Lopez makes my list because he is a distinguished gentleman like Eddie Murphy. It’s not always a bad thing when the gray hair starts showing. The best comedians are experienced on stage and in life too.
This doesn’t mean soldiers need to take a bullet or need to get fired at and take cover. Funny people get my drift. I’m a long time George Lopez fan.
You see there is a lesson in Lopez’s story. That’s why Lopez is a focal point in Elite Latino Comedians: Best in Show Biz. Remember elite isn’t a bad word but fuck is. All I am saying is there is nothing wrong with doing your best. This Hollywood star keeps shining especially in dark times.

That’s when you know you’re on top. The tabloids can write anything and it doesn’t faze you. George Lopez tells the truth. He takes risks. For instance, Spare Parts was a film that could have failed. Instead this movie showcased his skills as a dramatic actor much like Reign Over Me did for Adam Sandler.
What is more, the Latino, Asian, and African American communities respect Lopez for championing important causes. I highly recommend watching Spare Parts- a true story about a Latino high school beating MIT in an underwater robotics tournament. It is thought provoking.
Plus the movie is funny. How can you not laugh with George Lopez? If Steve Harvey is the #1 Answer, then George Lopez is Numero Uno.
The Mexican American actor has came a long way to make it big. He got here by staying focused. So the moral of the story is to don’t lose focus and keep trying. George got knocked down on the ground, but he got back up. And that’s what champions do.

How Richard Pryor Set The World On Fire

Do you watch the Laugh Factory? Right after a hard day of literally working at the factory, how about watching comedians perform at the Laugh Factory? Richard Pryor was a foreman at the Laugh Factory. He could make standup comics out of clay in the same way Henry Ford made Mustangs out of steel.
Mike Epps and Tracy Morgan owe Richard Pryor’s legacy a fortune. Would there even be an “Eddie Murphy” without Richard Pryor? Did you know Saturday Night Live wanted Pryor as their inaugural host but executives feared the worse? That’s why George Carlin was chosen.
What’s so funny? Everything was a laughing matter with Richard Pryor. The comedy legend made sure his audience was having fun. Pryor is called the best because being funny was his calling. And he was the crème de la crème.
Now you see Steve Harvey doing his thing and it’s all good. What’s more, he doesn’t have a problem saying Richard paved the way for him. Jerry Seinfeld said Richard Pryor was the “Picasso of our profession.” No matter how great a comedian gets, he must acknowledge the great ones.
Have you seen Which Way Is Up, Brewster’s Millions, and Harlem Nights? Richard Pryor movies (and especially his standup specials) must be consumed on an empty stomach. With Pryor laughter comes from the gut. The comedian addressed the most controversial topics all while keeping his cool. His comedy worked because he wasn’t confrontational but observational. Plus, all types of women fell dangerously in love with him.
What was Richard Pryor’s secret to success? He understood people. We cannot overemphasize the importance of interpersonal communication. Pryor knew how to use the right word at the right time, what was better left unsaid, and how to make you feel special.
I’ve seen every Richard Pryor Show episode. Moreover, I can’t go a month’s time without his comedy. Check out Car Wash for a throwback.
Final thought, Richard Pryor almost died after setting himself on fire. Ironically, this same man set the world on fire too! How did he do it? It was an inside job.

Why Steve Harvey Is the #1 Answer

BY: GURU JAY

Are you sick and tired of seeing these tensed uptight people? They walk around with their snotty noses up in the air and look down on everybody. Don’t let it get you upset. The truth is they’re miserable inside. They don’t have any sense. And they definitely don’t have a sense of humor.
Steve Harvey is the answer to their problems. Buy a Steve Harvey DVD and give it to these people. They desperately need more laughter in their lives. Over the years, Harvey has a built a name for himself on TV, radio, and in movies.
Consider his dominant TV presence. Hosting Family Feud is a prestigious honor. His hit show Little Big Shots is a new sensation. Also, the comedian’s daytime talk show helps establish his durable brand. The multitalented entertainer can sing a little too.
He’s up for all challenges. He’s a workaholic. But it’s his moment. You rise up to the occasion when it’s your chance to swing. Opportunities have an expiration date like milk. Don’t spoil your talent and waste my time.

Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man changed the game for Mr. Harvey. Can I keep it real? Before that he was a borderline has-been. However, he never quit… thank God. The celebrity is too resilient to succumb to defeat. Moreover, Steve’s spirituality keeps him whole.
Yes, his net worth stands at $100 million and growing. But his real value is his manhood. He takes care of his responsibilities and provides for his wife and family in non-financial ways as well.

At the end of the day, remind people to get their priorities in line. Realize what’s truly important before it’s too late. Forgive yourself for making mistakes. But shame on you for making the same mistakes repeatedly. Ironically, Steve Harvey is most likely the highest profile comedian in the world because of his Miss Universe screw-up. The takeaway is to learn from your failures in order to succeed.

The Martin Lawrence Entertainment Effect

BY: GURU JAY

The Martin Lawrence effect is larger than comedy. Martin Lawrence transformed entertainment via television, movies, and popular culture. The great comedian is the best of his generation. Furthermore, Martin is one of the greatest entertainers of all time.
Martin remembers where he started and knows how to finish. He entertains the masses as if they’re one person. Everyone enjoys Martin’s sitcom reruns and standup specials.
1st Amendment Standup showcased upcoming comics. Because Lawrence cultivated talent, the comedian indirectly influences the entertainment world. Regardless of your preferences, Martin Lawrence proves he is the man! Starring in movies ranging from Rated G to Rated R, Martin makes everybody laugh.

Comedy needed a message and a higher power made Martin Lawrence a messenger. Over the years I’ve watched Martin mature into a living legend. His comedy special Run Tell Dat rivals Eddie Murphy’s Delirious and Katt William’s Kattpacalypse.
Initially, I wanted to write a comparison article but after seeing Lawrence’s Inside the Actors Studio, I decided against it realizing his unique character. Truly, Martin Lawrence is one of a kind. How does the Joker throw out an Ace of Spades every hand? Channeling his creativity, craziness is Martin’s strong suit.
Through the years Martin managed to keep busy. Even Kevin Hart can’t challenge Martin’s depth of work and countless contributions. The original Def Comedy Jam host steps out on stage like Floyd Mayweather, Jr. moves in the boxing ring.
Moreover, Martin Lawrence seems larger than life because of his unmistakable charisma. Like Richard Pryor, the comedic actor appears affable. The Martin sitcom opened doors for Wayans Brothers, Jamie Foxx, and Steve Harvey.
The best Martin Lawrence movies include: Life, Big Mommas, Bad Boys, Blue Streak, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, Death at a Funeral, National Security, and Wild Hogs. Name your favorites in the comments section. I am Guru Jay launching off into orbit in 5-4-3-2-1!
