With $82 million, Oprah Winfrey takes the 10^th spot. Why does Oprah consistently rank as one of the highest paid celebrities? Here’s a clue. She owns everything.

Oprah has established and operates a micro media conglomerate. Harpo productions produces Rachael Ray, Dr. Phil, and Dr. Oz TV shows. What is more, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) contributes greatly to the talk queen’s financial success.

At 9, newcomer Mark Burnett made his fortune rewriting the Bible. Speaking of writers, long time novelist James Patterson ranks as the 8^th highest paid celebrity. At the this point, Patterson can sit back and wait for his royalty checks. To the contrary, the Along Came a Spider author steadily creates and develops new content.

Coming in at 8, it should come as no surprise that Fox News anchor Glenn Beck collected $90 Million. Beck has his hands in aplenty. For instance, in 2010 the journalist started Beck University.

Colleagues Simon Cowell and Howard Stern each earned $95 Million. Remember the American Idol days when Simon had a chip on his shoulder. How about when Howard interviewed Playboy bunnies and sexpots?

Director Steven Spielberg, who made a cool $100 Million, is number 4. Spielberg excels at entertainment. You know he harnessed Halle Berry’s star power as an Extant executive?

In addition, Floyd “money” Mayweather (the best ever boxer) generated $105 million. Mayweather will finally fight Manny Pacquiao. Look for TBE to move up 2 spots next year.

Like Oprah, the 2^nd highest paid celebrity is no stranger to big purses. Why are people jealous of Beyoncé? She’s an exceptional entertainer, who’s fairly compensated for her craft. When you make $115 million it comes with strings attached.

Last but not least, don’t forget about Dre. Dr. Dre earned $620 million after several years of working smarter.

Who is your favorite actor? Do you like money? Here is a list of the top 10 highest paid actors.

10. Liam Neeson, $32 Million

One word: Taken. The actor has stolen the spotlight from Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and others on numerous occasions. He’s in an elite acting class.

Have you seen Non-Stop? Neeson is not slowing down even at age 62. Neeson’s career is full of achievements. He’s like a decorated soldier.

The box office is all about the dollar. As you know I love numbers. That’s why I like Liam Neeson.

Neeson has been involved with several blockbusters. He starred in Star Wars, Batman, and the Chronicles of Narnia. Basically, Liam Neeson puts butts in seats.

He is the 10^th highest paid actor. Liam made 32 million dollars last year. Movie executives, producers and directors are proud to have him on their team.

9. Denzel Washington, $33 Million

Denzel Washington was born to act. Did you know his mother named him after the doctor who delivered him? Denzel deserves every ounce of respect.

He started off his career humbly. His claim to fame took countless sacrificial years. He displayed brilliance in John Q.

If you have yet to see it, I highly recommend the film. Denzel Washington doesn’t mind playing the villain. In fact, he embraces being the antagonist.

That’s why he thrived in American Gangster, Training Day and Malcolm X. He actually turned down the chance to play MLK. Denzel is an impressive and tough act to follow.

Washington made $33 million last year. He earned $20 million from Equalizer. Do you like Denzel Washington?

8. Tom Cruise, $35 Million

If you’re having money troubles, call Tom Cruise. His acting skills will bail you out of a jam. Of course, you have to pay him top dollar.

The Top Gun actor is on top of the totem pole. He’s been in the business for a long time. And, he is still in high demand for many reasons.

He’s short in stature but he is a tall glass of water. Women gawk at his sight. Cruise’s time in the gym has paid dividends.

Did you see Mission Impossible III? The cast had electric chemistry. All the Missions were good.

Now, Tom is not a saint but his acting is close to perfect. As a result of his hardworking workaholic work ethic, Tom Cruise made $35 million last year. This is proof he is the best. Who is the next Tom Cruise? Who knows?

7. Adam Sandler, $37 Million

Adam Sandler is the funniest man on the list. I mean he is a comedian after all. But, did you know Adam is a great dramatic actor?

Watch Reign Over Me. Sandler showcases the range of his talents. He’s more than one dimension.

The funny man made $37 million in 2013. My only knock on Sandler is his role selections. He must take more pride in his stride and stop accepting junk parts.

6. Leonardo DiCaprio, $39 Million

His name sounds like your favorite Starbucks’ latte. But, how can you blame DiCaprio when he didn’t choose his name? Anyway, the girls don’t mind.

Shakespeare said, “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” The Romeo and Juliet actor attracts a loyal and supportive crowd. He’s been in the game for a long time. You must appreciate his body of work.

Two words: The Titanic. Leonardo DiCaprio owes his good fortune to the misfortune that happened on the Titanic. Without this movie, Leonardo’s name would be smaller.

Leo DiCaprio is big. How big? He made $39 million. It doesn’t take an accountant…to figure out that’s a no-brainer.

5. Dwayne Johnson, $46 Million

The Rock a.k.a. Dwayne Johnson is the new and improved Sylvester Stallone. Did you see Pain & Gain? Are you standing in line to see Hercules?

I predict Hercules will be a huge success. The casting department got the right man for the job. People say he lives in the gym. No, he is the gym.

Dwayne is authentic. That is the key to his success. Why isn’t he in Expendables? He is indispensable.

Get out of the kitchen if you smell what the Rock is cooking.

Dwayne Johnson had a great year. The actor received $46 million. He is a must-see movie star.

4. Mark Wahlberg, $52 Million

Mark Wahlberg a.k.a. Marky Mark is an outstanding actor. He’s the white Will Smith. Smith is the black Mark Wahlberg.

Either way you look at it, Marky Mark’s got the good vibrations. Wahlberg is the new and enhanced Tom Cruise. Also, his sense of humor is underrated. Did you like him in The Other Guys and Ted?

Mark Wahlberg made $52 million. He is the 4th highest paid actor. The Transformersis an absolute must-see summer fun and family friendly movie.

3. Hugh Jackman, $55 Million

Hugh Jackman is the greatest Australian actor ever. Statistically, he has the box office results to back up that claim. This is one of his best years financially and artistically.

Hugh Jackman received $55 million last year. He was underpaid. Still, he is the 3rd highest paid actor.

Channing Tatum is the highest paid actor of his generation. 22 Jump Street is also an absolute must-see summer fun flick. Will you buy the DVD?

He was great in White House Down. The good thing is he’s getting better. He could be bigger than Brad Pitt.

Channing is more famous than Dave. He is the 2nd highest paid actor. He made $60 million in 2013.

1. Robert Downey, Jr., $75 Million

Acting is in Robert Downey, Jr.’s blood. Making money in the performance arts is a family tradition. You can’t deny Downey, Jr. has a gift.

However, the Iron Man is overpaid. He was fine in Sherlock Holmes. But, who will call it like they see it?

I will.

Robert Downey Jr. received $75 million. He was in 1 movie! Hollywood has it backwards. Whoever wrote Downey, Jr. that check should be scratching his head. Better yet, he should get his head examined.

Predictions

I predict Chris Evans a.k.a. Captain America will make the top 10 sooner than later. And, Will Smith may make a list or two if he gets back into the groove. Also, Jennifer Lawrence will command a much higher salary in the future.

Right Said Fred created the I’m Too Sexy video in 1992. It was an instant hit. Now every model knows the words to I’m Too Sexy verbatim.

As you know, I study economics. Well, supermodels are the definition of high demand. There is a real talent shortage.

If you want to be a model, you need thick skin and a thin waist. You’ll get picked apart if you’re not careful. That’s why I admire models for their confidence.

Sometimes supermodels come off as arrogant. But that’s not the case. In their line of work, a strong ego is a requirement.

I admire models for their work ethic. Picture the hours of hard work that go into modeling. A model must spend countless hours in front of flashing cameras.

That’s not all. She has to count her calories. And, a model must exercise like a racehorse.

If a model tries her best, she is compensated accordingly.

Modeling agencies carefully choose the bodies that get to strut on the catwalk. If you’re too fragile, don’t apply. If you’re too sexy, then let’s go ahead and get it done.

If you are an aspiring model, don’t quit. Remember, there’s a big reward. Here are the 10 highest paid models…

10. Lara Stone

There’s no denying the Dutch beauty Lara Stone. The blonde model is the 10th highest paid internationally. She is known for her lucrative Calvin Klein jeans contract.

In total, Lara Stone earned $3.2 million. She has a good name and is very valuable. Calvin Klein can’t afford to drop her.

9. Candice Swanepoel

Candice Swanepoel is 9th with earnings totaling $3.3 million. She does work for Versace, Juicy Couture and Max Factor. At 5’10” and age 25, Candice’s stock is rising.

She’s too sexy for her skirt. Maxim named her number 1 on the Hot 100 list. If you didn’t know who Candice Swanepoel was, now you do!

8. Joan Smalls

I thought Kate Upton would make the top 10. But, I have faith in Forbes’ numbers. So, look for Kate next time.

The modeling industry is highly competitive. Dare I say it is cutthroat and ruthless? All these models make it look easy.

The fact is it takes more than sheer sexiness to make it in the modeling world. You have to possess a combination of factors. Do you have what it takes?

Action Heroes And Zeroes: 1’s + 0’s

The best Action Heroes command a load of zeroes on their paychecks. Action is a big box office draw. Many Action Movies are rated PG-13. So, action movies often are nice family friendly films.

You will find many Action Heroes in our list of Top 10 Actors. Action films require a high budget. It’s rare to see a low budget Action movie.

You know it takes money to make money. Think of Action flicks as an investment. Let’s say you bought Google stock.

Now, imagine buying stock in Bruce Willis like you would Google. You want to look at Bruce Willis as an investment. This is how the entertainment industry works.

I love action. You are hardly ever disappointed. Action Heroes have special stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. There is a strong bond between Action Heroes and Zeroes.

I vividly recall watching the original Robocop on several Saturdays. In the 90s, Robocop received massive syndication. Unfortunately, for the movie purist, TIVO was not invented yet.

You were forced to watch the commercials that came attached with the featured presentation. We did not mind the advertisements, because every now and again we needed popcorn and a can of Coke.

Technology still remains a major component of Action Movies. It’s a simple fact that Action makes movie executives billions of dollars. Bruce Willis is the ultimate Action Hero.

Look at the Die Hard franchise. As you will see, Willis has dominated decade after decade in the Action genre. Not very many other Action actors have lasted as long.

Bruce Willis is underrated. Although he earns a wad of zeroes, he is underpaid. As you may already know, Willis commanded a percentage of the Six Sense. He clearly made a calculated move.

Timing is everything in entertainment. Bruce Willis is a timeless actor. If you placed him in films from the fifties and sixties, he ‘d still be popular.

100 years from now, Bruce Willis films will still be popular. Mark my words. I can’t even express how much money Bruce Willis is worth. If you look anything like Willis, you’re welcome in Hollywood.

Another Action movie legend is Sylvester Stallone. I admire his Rambo movies. A lot like Bruce, Sly has owned the box office results. It’s safe to say Mr. Stallone is a senior citizen, but he does not act his age.

He still is pushing steel and pumping iron. And, he keeps on producing high quality productions such as the Expendables. I enjoy the Expendables because it is nostalgic.

Those Expendable actors put in a ton of work at the gym and on the silver screen. That’s why Stallone makes seven to eight zeroes per movie. He is the darn movie executive.

What about Rocky? Everybody loves Rocky. How many box office knockouts has Rocky had?

Next, is Jean-Claude Van Damme? He is an international Action icon. What’s more, he practices what he preaches. Van Damme is a martial artist master.

He’s a man you don’t want to argue with. He can paralyze his foe in one quick hand movement. Like Stallone, Van Damme does not act his age.

His global appeal is brilliantly marketed in this Volvo commercial.

It’s easy to tell he is true to his craft. I like his authentic nature.

If I excluded Arnold Schwarzenegger I wouldn’t be able to call myself a journalist. I truly think he is half man and half machine. Prove me wrong.

P.S. He’ll be back!

He has matured into arguably the greatest action hero of all time. Schwarzenegger started his career as a bodybuilder and took off from there. His Terminator franchise is legendary.

If you plan to write a piece on movie history, it’s only right you mention Arnold Schwarzenegger in the discussion.

The Action filmography of Will Smith speaks for itself. He has earned a spot at the top because of his value. He brings value to each movie he is associated with.

Smith’s box office results are not comparable. That’s why he also garners seven to eight zeroes. The only knock on Smith is he should star in more films.

Take a few more risks like After Earth. No risk, no reward. You can’t make a hit all the time.

As you can see, Jolie is versatile. She proves to the entertainment world that women can star in more than romance and comedy. She is legitimate.

Jolie has some of the best sex appeal ever filmed. But, she is more than a sex symbol. Angelina is an amazingly talented actress. She is in the heavyweight division just like Sylvester Stallone.

Remember, when I said you are hardly ever disappointed with Action. Well, sometimes you get robbed. Sometimes, you respectfully ask for your money back.

After all, money doesn’t grow on pine trees. Money grows on trees in Larry Page’s backyard.

Action Zeroes

Action movies staring Rob Schneider should never be made. He is an above average comedian. He is not an Action star.

First of all, looking the part is a prerequisite. Secondly, acting the part is just as critical. Jay Leno is first on the list of Action Zeroes.

I showed you a strong connection of Action heroes and zeroes. Now, let’s go to the other extreme. These Action actors don’t command a lot of zeroes. In fact, they are Action Zeroes.

What day is it? What should we do? You want to go to the movies huh? What’s playing?

I want to see a movie with Emma Stone. She’s hot right now. Did you know she made $16 million last year? Yeah, that’s a lot of green.

But, you know Angelina Jolie made more money than Emma Stone and Sandra Bullock combined. What do you think all the top 10 actresses have in common? You’re right if you guessed they take a good picture.

All our top actresses are pretty photogenic. It seems actresses have to look stunning and possess awe-shocking talent too. That’s a lot to ask.

Remember the movie Mona Lisa Smile with Julia Roberts. After many years, Julia is still smiling. She made $10 million in 2013. If you ask me, she has the most gorgeous eyes and best smile ever filmed.

Our actresses have to look state-of-the-art at all times. It’s rare to see an actress without makeup. There’s something about an actress, which makes her as priceless as a Picasso. The top 10 look like walking masterpieces.

The art of actresses is their beauty. Additionally an actress needs personality and a fun spirit in order to make it big. All the top ten have a unique selling point.

The Science of Acting

Acting is an art as much as it is a science. Acting is an art because actors express feelings and emotions. Acting is a science because actors portray logical themes and truths.

Science is very involved in the movie industry. There are both artists and scientists working on the silver screen and behind the cameras. I challenge you to research several movie titles.

You will find there are thousands of people working on 1 given film. Everyone is not an artist either. You may not want to hear this, but movies are formulaic.

There is a science to the madness.

You see the job of casting directors is to build chemistry. Chemistry is definitely a science. You learn a great deal in Chemistry 101 and even more at the 200 and 300 levels.

Certain chemical elements cannot mix together. If you do mix them, there will be a huge explosion. The Big Bang Theory cast may call it combustion.

The casting director is tasked with matching characters with talents. The Lead Actor or Actress should have the right ingredients for stardom. You always want a strong leading character.Furthermore, your supporting actors and actresses must be artistically and scientifically inclined.

Count on the casting director to help make the equation balanced. If the film fails, remember there are 999+ other people you may choose to blame. The blame game is real. That’s why the Razzies are infamous.

The actress may not admit in public but she doesn’t want to be mocked and humiliated. In my previous post, I explained how every actor wants an Oscar. No one wants a Razzy.

Who Made The Cut

Today’s blog features the Top 10 Actresses. If you remember, last time I talked about the top 10 actors. Of the 10 actors, none were women.

There are many fine actresses. However, it is harder for an actress than it is for an actor. Angelina Jolie will go down in history as an elite actress. She doesn’t even have to play in another movie. Her body of work speaks volumes.

Jolie will continue her philanthropy. She has already changed the entertainment world. Now, she is in the process of changing the real world.

We’re not fools. We know celebrities stage events for publicity. All of them want to be seen as nice people with the exception of Kanye West. But, I believe some celebrities are really sincere. I feel like Angelina Jolie is truthful.

I admire the humanitarian Jolie on many levels. She is not selfish. If she were, she would make even more money. It’s amazing how she is the highest paid actress. And at the same time, she is very vocal about worldly social issues.

The Tourist is a film, which critics tore apart. I liked the movie starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. The characters had perfect chemistry and the performances were great. The Tourist was not financially successful due to bad marketing.

Jennifer Lawrence, 23, also made the cut. What more can I say about the actress other than she made $26 million last year? I guess I can say she is a shining star.

Lawrence has youth on our side. She is younger than me. And, she is also making way more money than me.

Can you imagine making $26 million at the age of 23? What do you think you’d have to do to make that much money? Maybe, you would have to grow to 7 feet 2 inches and play basketball. Or, you might have to invent Pinterest.

Hey, for all I know you may have inherited a billion dollars on your 21^st birthday. All I know is, as an accountant, I’d invest 20 million of those dollars. However, many celebrities waste their money on stupid stuff.

In my last list, I organized the leading males by the total amount of money they made at the box office. This time, I am sorting the top 10 actresses by their payday.
