Top 2020 New TV Shows

TV is huge. There is so much to watch. Where do we start? Apple TV, Hulu, Disney+, Netflix, Starz, HBO, Showtime, ABC, NBC, Fox- come on, the options are endless. There are so many ways to go with this. We can argue about what’s better. Or we can look at the ratings, which only tell half of the story. We can talk about the best show on Hulu and Netflix. Is The Handmaid’s Tale Hulu’s best?

The Show Must Go On

The year is almost over; and, now is a good time to do some reflection. Saying the best TV is behind us is a matter of opinion. The best TV could be in front of us. So what there is no more Game of Thrones and Big Bang Theory, there are still other choices. Here are the top 2020 TV shows, along with commentary. Here’s to watching and binge-watching only the best episodes!

  • Lovecraft Country

Out with the old, in with the new. For this list, we only will discuss the top 2020 shows. We start with the Lovecraft Country. What is there to say about a book-based show? You know that it is going to be good. Jurnee Smollett is making a name for herself in the drama series. Beginning in August with six episodes and counting, the HBO show is becoming very popular.

  • Next

This show makes our cut because the algorithms dictate it. The Fox TV show about artificial intelligence is the definition of brand new. Fox aired the pilot episode on October 6, 2020. They have high hopes for the science-fiction show as Next has a big budget, fine cast, and top crew.

  • Ghost

Creating this list is hard because we decide what we write about and what we discard–that’s power. Choosing Ghost is a no-brainer because the Starz crime drama is a spin-off of one of the most successful shows on TV ever (Power). Created by Courtney A. Kemp, this series is in it for the long haul. Plus, Michael Rainey has potential as the lead actor. Coming back in December, fans can’t wait to see how season 1 concludes.

  • The Great

There is something for everybody on TV. Those with a dark sense of humor will find watching The Great enjoyable. Based loosely on Russian history, Elle Fanning plays a fictional Catherine II. Debuting in May 2020, this Hulu show received an Emmy nomination. It ultimately lost to Schitt$ Creek.

  • Normal People

This Hulu drama series is novel-based. There is a lot to say about a show based on a book. It is simply the best. Little Fires Everywhere is an honorable mention in this category.

  • Hollywood

This Netflix original is all about Hollywood. What could go wrong? We can choose to watch or binge-watch everything. There are a total of 7 episodes in the miniseries. Plus, it is high-budget.

  • Raised by Wolves

Ridley Scott does a fine job producing Raised by Wolves. His credit as an executive producer helps drive the show to success.  Recently, HBO renewed the show. Created by Aaron Guzikowski, HBO just renewed Raised by Wolves for a second season. There are great things in store for this science fiction show. Wait and see.

  • Away

Another Netflix original, Away, is about humans exploring Mars. The cast, especially Hilary Swank, is exceptional. Debuting in September 2020, Away is not too far off the mark. The cinematography of the series is incredible. Hopefully, another season is in the works.

  • The Good Lord Bird

Starring Ethan Hawke, The Good Lord Bird is taking over Showtime. The pilot episode debuted on October 4, 2020. Expect another episode soon. It shouldn’t get canceled because the show has all the right ingredients. What more could we want?

  • Emily in Paris

Last but not least, this show makes the final cut. Netflix released this brand new show last week. Motion pictures set in Paris have a good reputation. The highly-rated Emily in Paris is taking on the world. How long will the excitement last?

There are a lot of new TV shows to discuss. Some of them will get canceled for multiple reasons. Fortunately, there are enough TV shows to keep us happy. We could have mentioned more, but ten is a wholesome number. Let’s keep watching and binge-watching only the best because our time is valuable.

What Is Game of Thrones Without Emilia Clarke?

What Is Game of Thrones Without Emilia Clarke?

I blogged about Emilia Clarke’s portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen as a major reason people watch Game of Thrones in a recent blogpost entitled Why Game of Thrones Is the Number 1 TV Show. I still stand by that assertion. Without Emilia Clarke, Game of Thrones would not be the same though. What Chris Martin is to Coldplay and what Kaley Cuoco is to the Big Bang Theory, Emilia Clarke is to Game of Thrones.

Her character and the actress herself has evolved through the years. This blogpost hopes to highlight or at least shine a light on some of her excellence. In my eyes, Emilia Clarke is the English version of Scarlett Johansson. You can’t deny that her beauty is a factor for fans tuning in every Sunday on HBO. Moreover, you can’t deny that her talent is another factor fans are glueing their eyeballs to their 4K Ultra and HD screens. The equation is simple. Beauty + Talent = Movie Star.

The Hollywood actress turned 30 years old on October 23rd. She started filming Game of Thrones in her mid-twenties. I believe she has became more beautiful and more talented within that time frame. Moreover, she has a good sense of humor and is a pleasant personality, which is rare. I recommend watching a few interviews and getting to know her when you get the chance. I’m providing a brief clip at the end of this post for your enjoyment.

What is Game of Thrones without Emilia Clarke? Her character’s long golden flowing locks are signature to the series. Plus, I can see the show staying in production for another 5 years. You see Game of Thrones is based on a book by George R.R. Martin. Emilia Clarke is appealing to book lovers, especially fantasy genre aficionados in the realm of television. Fans on both sides are pleased with her characterization. Chime in your comments. You’re welcome at GuruJay.com.

Why Game of Thrones Is the Number 1 TV Show

Why Game of Thrones Is the Number 1 TV Show

Have you ever wondered what is the number 1 TV show? Game of Thrones is the best thing on television since the Big Bang in the beginning. As far as popularity and ratings are concerned, Game of Thrones has easily became the number 1 TV show no matter how you slice it. Here’s why.
You see, people subscribe to HBO solely to watch the fantasy TV show. Moreover, the show is sensational. It’s so sensational that it has become a part of popular culture. Whether we are talking American vernacular or British jargon, everyone is familiar with dragon eggs by now.
Game of Thrones means the world to HBO. George R.R. Martin has built an ironclad brand. Plus, the producers are cash-cows to the cable TV network. We haven’t seen anything quite like Game of Thrones in the history of TV. What other show is setting records in the seventh season? That’s unheard of. I believe the show’s secret is the introduction of new characters and the elimination of old characters.
HBO recently stated the channel’s intellectual property had been compromised in a cyberattack and hacking. Material from Game of Thrones was released on the world wide web ahead of schedule. It seems scenarios such as these are becoming commonplace. Before HBO, Netflix was hacked. Before Netflix, Disney was hacked.
It is interesting that Game of Thrones is becoming more and more popular. I believe Emilia Clarke’s portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen is a major reason people watch. Emilia Clarke is a fine Hollywood actress, who fascinates the audience.
I love Game of Thrones because fantasy has always intrigued me. I grew up loving J.K. Rowling and the Lord of the Rings. Game of Thrones is a current inspiration to me and millions of others. Along with watching the TV show, I encourage you to read the books. See firsthand why Game of Thrones is the number 1 TV show.

Showcasing Olivia Wilde

BY: GURU JAY

Olivia Wilde’s beauty brushes with perfection. Her makeup artists (MUAs) enjoy highlighting and accentuating Olivia’s gorgeous features. Those eyes, that nose, and them lips are national treasures. Also, the Smithsonian should preserve her hot body so it can be showcased for generations to come.
Olivia Wilde is one of Hollywood’s hottest actresses. She started working in a casting agency and worked her way into the movie industry from the inside. That’s what we call brains.
Isn’t she a fine supporting actress? She played a key role in House, M.D. as Thirteen. Right now, she’s a good piece in HBO’s Vinyl. You watch, as Vinyl takes off so will Olivia.

Did you know the celebrity is a vegan? Plus, this petite actress advocates for PETA. In 2015, we saw the thespian transform with her performance in The Lazarus Effect. She pleases the crowd.
I believe she’s destined to become a major leading lady. It’s only a matter of time before directors start demanding her services exclusively. Maybe, Olivia Wilde will win over movie’s coldest critics.
Man, Hollywood is a shrew in need of taming.
Have you ever dreamed of the glamorous life? Do you want a showbiz career but you haven’t acted on it (no pun intended)? I’ll tell you a secret.

If you want to succeed, find a mentor. Unfortunately, talent alone doesn’t cut it. Olivia Wilde has all the talent in the world, but that’s not the reason she’s on the A-List. Wilde keeps scoring points because she has a coach.
We could watch Cowboys & Aliens and Tron Legacy over and over again only to see Wilde’s scenes. Did you know the movie star models too? That explains everything.
Final point, showcasing Olivia Wilde’s beauty is a given. However, let’s showcase her talent as well. You can’t get any closer to perfect than this right here.

Boardwalk Empire And Monopoly Money

BY: GURU JAY

Why Boardwalk Empire Played With Monopoly Money

It is sad to see Boardwalk Empire end after the 5th season. But, every empire must collapse eventually. The successful show played with Monopoly money.

We all want to own Boardwalk in Monopoly. But gangster Enoch “Nucky” Thompson has the deed. If you value your life, pay him or face the consequences.

Boardwalk Empire played with Monopoly money because their expenditures were unreal. I know for certain that their finance and production departments argued all the time. The accountant’s job is to keep expenses low.

But a big budget was necessary for the HBO show. You can’t make the Great Gatsby on a shoestring budget. So, I understand the high cost.

Nothing compares to Boardwalk Empire. It is literally a monopoly. Although Game of Thrones is incredible, it is in a different genre. Plus Boardwalk has the best cast on television. And, their actors are well established.

What more do we want? There are compelling characters and spectacles, and an intriguing script. Boardwalk Empire is HBO’s boldest statement yet.

We are teleported to the 1920s like an Aziz Ansari joke. When I watch the Empire, I feel as if I am there. After the hour is up, I get back to reality.

Do you realize Boardwalk Empire’s greatness? I appreciate how carefully they pay attention to details. The writers do not get enough credit for their work.

Buyers beware. Boardwalk Empire is a drug. Take it in small doses; or you’ll become addicted.

“Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. Go directly to jail.”

My only complaint with the Empire (doesn’t that sound like Star Wars) is it has untapped potential. Why isn’t Mark Wahlberg in front of the camera? I get that he wants to be the boss, but he is wasting his acting talent as a producer.

I challenge you to watch the Departed. It is very violent but it shows Wahlberg from another angle. Can you picture Mark on the cast of Boardwalk?

Also, can you imagine the show as a movie? Make Martin Scorsese the director. In a sense, Boardwalk Empire is already the T.V. equivalent of the Godfather.

The Godfather is crucial to counter culture as well as pop culture. It is highly regarded by fans and critically acclaimed. Steve Buscemi is Marlon Brando.

Like the Godfather, the talent is topnotch. The addition of Jeffrey Wright to the cast in season 4 was a wise choice. Jeffrey plays an exceptional authority figure.

I watched the entire 4th season. All the episodes were impressive. My favorite episode is #43 “William Wilson.”

Jeremy Podeswa is an actor’s director. Episode #43 is flawless because of him. I can’t wait for his next projects.

If you like your American history class, then you will like Boardwalk Empire. Boardwalkreimagines the Prohibition Era. You’ll learn just how easy things were back in the day.

Although the ratings fell in Season 4, I still believe it is the best. What is your favorite season? See invitation to the set here.

Do you like action, drama and suspense? Tune in Sundays this September to watch new episodes. This is it.

From the start, Boardwalk Empire began with a bang. They spent $18 million to make the pilot episode. They’ll probably spend $20 million making the series finale.

I hope the writers and producers take a page out of the Sopranos script. Who can forget that famous ending? Rest in peace James Gandolfini.
Fading to black is classic. But, the Boardwalk Empire needs a unique ending because it is legendary. If anybody can paint a masterpiece, it is Terrence Winter.

The finale must look at the big picture. What are you trying to accomplish? Have you exceeded expectations?

Boardwalk Empire dominated HBO for half a decade. It struck back like Star Wars. It still is an original work of art.

They not only played with Monopoly money; they played with fire. Nowadays, breaking taboos is important. If you are politically incorrect, you’re forced to apologize.

Oligarchy

Ironically Game of Thrones dethroned Boardwalk Empire. It was an oligarchy instead of a monopoly. And yet, Boardwalk kept playing with Monopoly money.

What if Boardwalk Empire adjusted? What if it cut the budget in half, making way for two or three additional seasons? Is it too late to save the empire from falling?

I feel Thrones and Empire need each other. In fact, they both serve different purposes. You see you get the fantasy with the Game and the reality with Boardwalk.

When I create my show I want to build it to last forever. Boardwalk Empire sets the stage for newbies and amateurs. My show will use Boardwalk Empire to serve as a model.

I love how Boardwalkbuilds up to the climax. You never know what will happen next. The plot twists and thickens.

The reason why Boardwalk Empire played with Monopoly money is because all along the game was rigged. Gangsters acquired assets illegally and unethically.

Crime ran rampant in Atlantic City. Not even your thoughts were safe. You answered to a higher power named Enoch but his friends called him Nucky.

Corrupt politicians, crooked cops and mob bosses plotted together. They united around an unjust cause. Bootlegging made many millionaires and millions of victims.

Boardwalk is a pricy ‘vacay’ down memory lane. Only our grandparents know the actual truth. And so, we speculate.

Why

We young people are opting out of cable. That’s why great shows are ending before their time. Satellite and cable companies are not getting the memo.

These corporations think they can charge the moon. Well, keep it up and see what happens. It is a mutual exchange.

If you want to attract a younger audience, either lower the service price significantly; or fade to black like the last Sopranos episode. Boardwalk Empire is ending but this isn’t bad news. For every ending there is a new beginning.
