Who’s Watching? Daytime Talk Vs. Late Night TV Shows

BY: GURU JAY

Ellen DeGeneres dominates Day Time Talk Show TV.  She is in a league of her own. Hey Ellen, save the last dance for me.

I love Ellen DeGeneres for her style and substance. She has good intentions. I get the feeling Ellen genuinely cares about her audience.

She is committed to her craft. I imagine her crew has nothing negative to say toward her. Ellen’s appeal reminds me of Oprah.

What is more, Hollywood respects her. Why else would they beg her to host the Oscars again? Ellen has had a long and prosperous career.

Really, she shows no signs of slowing down. She has a monopoly on her time slot. At the end of the day, I think she is so successful because she is down-to-earth.

Humility is her middle name. To be on the air more than a decade is a tremendous achievement. What is extraordinary with Ellen is her sheer brilliance at connecting to the audience.

She stays out of trouble. So she doesn’t have P.R. problems. Everybody wants to be on the Ellen show.

They should change the show’s name to Everybody Loves Ellen. She deserves an in-depth article on The Guru Jay Blog.Day Time Talk TV is nothing without Ellen

Ellen blows the competition out the water like ducks. Who can challenge the Daytime Talk Show host? She stands alone in the crowd as a cougar among domestic cats.

If you want to survive you need a big meow. Also, you shouldn’t waste your time barking up the wrong tree. Whose talk show do you like?

Do you enjoy the cooking shows? The perky Rachael Ray reminds me of a younger Martha Stewart. She’s a sight to look at and can cook her ass off.

I like Rachael because she is properly positioned as an elite chef.  Comparing her show to the Chew is no contest. First of all, like Ellen, Rachael is the captain of her ship. She doesn’t need an entourage to surround her in the kitchen.

Don’t twist my words. I’m not knocking the Chew. But, it’s unfair to put the Chew cast and Rachael Ray in the same weight class.

Here’s why: they’re playing two different sports. Hear me out. Tennis, golf and boxing are individual sports, whereas: football, basketball and baseball are team sports.

As a proud American, I admire rugged individualism. Still, variety is great.

Does anyone know what happened to Emeril Lagasse? The Big “Bam” Theory replaced him.

I digress. The point is we want competition because it forces us to do better…to be the best.

Dr. Phil is America’s psychiatrist. He dominates his market share. Of course, Oprah introduced him to the world 16 years ago.  She played a major role in discovering Dr. Oz as well.

Here is an interesting article from ABC News. The story shows how Oprah made stars such as: Suze Orman, Nate Berkus and Iyanla Vanzant famous. This is more proof Oprah is a huge influencer inside and outside of Hollywood.

I can’t gloss over Maury and Jerry Springer These shows live on the cutting edge. They cater to an underserved population. They have lasted longer than expected.

My mom tells me the real reason is because they have easy jobs. People eat it up for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Check out these shocking ratings

Entertainment is Funny Show BusinessCrazy antics make mad money. Who’s watching?

It seems Day Time Talk TV has gone to the dogs. Late Night television is way more interesting.  It’s like the Wild West.

Arsenio Hall just got thrown into the mix. His show has been renewed for a second season. I’m sure he’s the worst nightmare of ABC and NBC.

Also, it appears Chelsea Lately is ending after seven seasons. Although I disagree with Chelsea Handler, I do feel we need a woman in this time slot.

Here’s an idea. Why not let Ellen DeGeneres produce a late show? She’s a good judge of talent. And, she is well connected.

Giving Ellen executive control is a win-win proposition. But, be warned! Late night television is a dangerous game.

I used to be a big fan of Conan O’Brien. I thought Jay Leno shanked him. I was wrong.

After watching O’Brien’s documentary, I now see that his big ego got in the way. He didn’t want to compromise. I was surprised to see how it all developed.

Furthermore, NBC is fully responsible for the Tonight Show travesty between Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien. They played the two against each other like pawns.

Late night television hosts have to swim with sharks. Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert will square off starting next year.  David Letterman will go out on top

Letterman chose a perfect time to retire. Colbert will come in and instantly cause problems for the two Jimmies. Late night ratings will spiral out of control.

I predict a steady decline of Jimmy Kimmel Live (JKL). Jimmy K. is good but he needs to be great. Here’s my rationale…

The Tonight Show with Fallon is only growing.  JKL is an old institution. Plus, the skinny Jimmy appeals to a much younger audience.

The arrival of Colbert will hurt the fat Jimmy more than the skinny. If I stand correct, the Tonight Show will beat the Late Show. And, the Late Show will beat the “Live” Show.

By the way, JKL is not a live event at all. Jimmy Kimmel Live is deceiving. If you ask me, it is false advertising.

We love live events. That’s why sports are so successful on TV. That’s why Larry King lasted 100 years on CNN

So I suggest ABC change their late night show name. I still believe in Jimmy Kimmel’s star power. Ever since The Man Show he has always been associated with greatness.

Why am I mad? Well, what if Saturday Night Live taped their show on Monday morning? Now, do you understand?

JKL must adapt and reinvent in order to stay on top of the food chain. Act now before it’s too late. Otherwise, Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert will be the new Coke and Pepsi.

In the words of the Most Interesting Man in the World, stay thirsty my friends.

Funny Show Business: Crazy Antics Make Mad Money

BY: GURU JAY

Mike Myers cemented his legacy on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with Austin Powers. The movie, a parody loosely based on James Bond, is Funny Show Business. As you can see, from the gif I created, the comedy is filled with crazy antics.

The bottom line is that crazy antics make mad money. Funny Show Business is a double entendre. I combined funny and show business in order to derive at the new term.

Funny Show Business is a trend in the entertainment world. Silly songs and goofy movies have become the norm. This standard is good and bad for a number of reasons.

Funny Show Business is good because it is profitable. It is bad because it is often pointless. Shouldn’t movies and music have a message?

I support comedy as long as there is a point. If it is pointless, then I am a little weary of it. You should have a method to your madness.

Movies and music should be artistic. Actors and musicians are supposed to be artists
Today’s entertainers need to reevaluate their roles in the business.

Rap music is a big target for a good reason. How many rap songs do a disservice? Sometimes, I am not impressed. A caveman can do some of these raps.

But you can’t throw an entire genre under the bus. Although there are bad raps, there are also good raps. Many fine rappers exploit their talents through their sense of humors.

Thrift Shop by Macklemorecatapulted the rapper to new heights. I am not mad at Macklemore one bit. He saw an opportunity and he capitalized on it.

Big capital is behind Funny Show Business. Corporations such as: Apple, Vevo, and Disney have invested heavily in funny business. Follow the money and see where it leads you.

Nowadays, you need to make fun because life is anything but funny. Society has gone insane. You never know what might happen in everyday situations.

We desire to hear silly songs and watch goofy movies. If sex sells, so does crazy antics.

We want the shock factor.

I feel as long as the formula is working, there’s no need for a change. You give the people what they want. Sometimes what we ask for is not best for us. Still, we get it anyway.

You can make millions by creating something about nothing. It’ s a shame that this is the status quo.  But in the reality TV world we live in, what else is expected?

In my mind, Hot Tub Time Machine is ludicrous. I could hardly wait to watch the movie. The reason is simple. I love hot tubs. Plus, time traveling intrigues me.

The Let’s Get It Started scene is sensational. Craig Robinson is a comedic genius. He is clearly an underrated comedian and actor.

I ‘heart’ the Hot Tub Time Machine. It’s hilarious. What’s more, as an 80’s baby, I can identify with the plot.

Corporations demand more from their employees.  As a result, people are overworked and stressed out. They have every right to complain.

It’s not supposed to be this way. That’s why we turn to entertainment after a long and stressful day. Sometimes the best message is to relax and spend time with your family.

Funny Show Business is lucrative because it fills a hole. We need to take a break. We need to make the most of our free time.

I created my blog as a leisure activity. I don’t intend to solve the world’s problems. I only want to provide informative entertainment.

Here is a place you can laugh out loud. I want this to be a therapeutic time. I want to be your pharmacist.

Comedy is a pharmacy if laughter is the best medicine. So go ahead and fill your prescription.

Jimmy Fallon is behind the counter helping me fill up medicine bottles. Don’t you know comediansmake the best pharmacists? Jokes are like pills. A standup special is a checkup.

You can’t take anything too serious. Don’t forget why YouTube was invented. It was invented for you to tube

Gangnam Style will eclipse 2 billion YouTube views very soon. Why is it the most popular video on the Internet? Because it is silly and ridiculous…

It is the most watched video on the Internet for a good reason. You might not know Korean, but you know Gangnam Style is muy divertido (very fun). After watching the clip, WTF is my first thought.

OMG, I call it catchy comedy. It grows on you. Humor is acquired like coffee and beer.

My favorite Will Ferrell movie is Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. I am a big fan of Saturday Night Live, so naturally I like the Funny or Diecreator. But, I had hated his movies until recently.

I thought the best part of Anchor Man was when it ended. However, after watching his movies again, I acquired a taste for them. I put the Ballad of Ricky Bobby right up there with The Hangover.

I feel the same way about Gangnam Style. I love words and numbers. But I only jump on bandwagons when I know where they’re headed.

Funny Show Business is the future of entertainment. There are fads; and, then there are trends. In my estimation, the funny business is trending upwards.

Come jump on the bandwagon. We’re in for a wild ride. I’m going to drive you nuts. Laugh hard or don’t laugh at all.

Why Comedians Make the Best Pharmacists

BY: GURU JAY

Growing up, they said I was so funny that I should be a standup comedian. Whenever, I heard those words it was sometimes sarcastic. Well, now I take it as a compliment. It’s my calling card. Over the years, I have developed a fond appreciation of comedy. I crave comedy like Harold and Kumar crave White Castle.

How I came to love comedy

Have you ever seen MTV’s Beavis and Butthead? When I was a boy, I watched Beavis and Butthead religiously. Then, more shows like South Park and Family Guygot me, along with one million other teenagers, hooked.  After reaching fifteen years old, I stopped watching cartoons and started watching: The Jamie Kennedy Experiment (JKX), MTV’s Punk’d with Ashton Kutcher and Chappelle’s show.

The Jamie Kennedy Experiment is creative, unique and different. I recommend that you go on a scavenger hunt and find a few episodes of Jamie Kennedy pranking people.  Also, Jamie Kennedy made a movie at the peak of his fame called Malibu’s Most Wanted. It’s about a young white man acting “black.”

Punk’d is similar to JKX but more popular. Ashton Kutcher “punks” celebrities in this hidden camera television show. Although Ashton Kutcher got his big break on That 70’s show, Punk’d put him on the map by Hollywood Boulevard.

The next stop on Hollywood Boulevard is Dave Chappelle. Dave Chappelle is a top five favorite comedian of mine. Without a shadow of a doubt, Chappelle’s Show on Comedy Central is the best comedy show of my generation. His comedy is on the edge. He goes to places no one else ever will. He is as good as standup comedians come. His success is only limited by his potential.

Why Comedians Make the Best Pharmacists

“Laughter is the best medicine.” So, comedians are the best pharmacists.  Comedy is universal in appeal. A funny face in New Zealand is just as funny as a face in Nantucket. Comedy is an art form and also a big business.

Pharmaceutical companies make billions of dollars soothing people’s pain. Believe it or not, comedy can heal you. Recent studies show a correlation between laughter and health. Just crack a few smiles and your cold will go away.

So, comedians make the best pharmacists because they distribute the pills for your cure. Jokes are pills that comedians hand out to their patients. The audience members are the patients. They are waiting patiently for the right dose of comedy.

As I get older, I realize that the best comedians not only make a lot of money but they travel the world and live a fun lifestyle. Comedian George Lopez was intoxicated at a Canadian casino. This shows that there are downsides and upsides to the business. If comedy is easy, everyone can do it. Comedy is not easy. It’s hard.

Comedian Kevin Hart lives by the motto “Everybody wants to be famous but nobody wants to put the work in…” His claim to fame is working harder than anybody else. His hard work has paid off because he is in a ton of movies.

My top three comedians are Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy and Dave Chappelle. Others such as George Carlin and Katt Williams round out my top five. I love comedy and I believe laughter is the best medicine, and comedians make the best pharmacists.
