Do you want Austin Butler’s performance in “Elvis” to win Best Actor at the 2023 Oscars?

There are Elvis impersonators. Then, there is Austin Butler as Elvis. Tell me you’ve seen his Oscar nominated performance. The question is do you want him to win Best Actor in a Leading Role?

I grew up during a time when Elvis was more famous than dead or alive presidents. His name was money. And we all know cash is king. Well, he’s called the King of Rock & Roll because his hard work paid dividends like Coca-Cola. 

A Bright Future

Now, here we have Austin Butler, a 31-year-old movie star who’s shining bright as ever. That’s right he’s the man you see on the screen portraying the larger-than-life figure, the legend Elvis himself. Maybe, you’re asking where he came from. Or maybe you’re seizing the time and appreciating the moment.

A Meeting With Tom Cruise

Does he fly in private jets yet? Have you seen photos and videos of him with Tom Cruise at the Oscars nominees’ luncheon? By the looks of it, Cruise is passing the torch to the young Hollywood star. Let’s propose a toast to Austin Butler. Welcome to the good life.

Something tells me this is only the beginning. Don’t be surprised if Cruise and Butler star in a movie or two together. Nowadays, Hollywood works fast and there’s room for everybody at the table.

It seems everybody wants to play the role of Elvis Presley, but Austin Butler put the hard work in and delivered an Academy Award winning performance. What more does the actor have to do to prove he’s the best?

Fun fact: Tom Hanks plays a supporting role in the Elvis movie. End of discussion, because if Hanks is in the film it’s got to be top notch. The only thing is the young actor is up against some serious competition. Brendan Fraser in “The Whale” is generating a lot of buzz.

Not to take away from Fraser, but Butler became Elvis and took over the screen. In theaters or at home, you could see and hear an Elvis clone. He looked and sounded like the real deal. All around, it is a great movie and Austin Butler’s performance is part of the reason why.

Playing the most famous man on planet Earth and living up to expectations at the same time requires something greater than talent and dedication. Although not a superhero yet, he’s one of Hollywood’s best actors right now. Could you imagine him in a film with Michael B. Jordan?

In addition, the actor went on record about his good friendship with Selena Gomez. Did you see him on the cover of Vanity Fair? Better yet, have you read the story? It’s interesting to put together the connections.

The movie business is full of talent and the man playing Elvis is center stage. It looks like the movie star has a very bright future. If he takes home the Oscar for Best Actor, it’s a wrap.

The Oscars are upon us. The 2019 nominees are in. And there isn’t a host for the show. But I expect a fun atmosphere and some surprises. There are a lot of questions and I have the answers. Who will win? Who will lose? I answer these questions and more in this article.

If you watched the Golden Globes, you have a good idea about the potential winners and losers of the Oscars also known as the Academy Awards. The Golden Globes are a placeholder for the movie award season. Earning one is a big deal. Still, having earned one isn’t a necessary requirement for winning an Oscar.

In fact, A Star Is Born was snubbed at the Golden Globes. However, I predict the film will win an Academy Award. I feel Bradley Cooper deserves an Oscar. Plus, Lady Gaga is dominating headlines right now.

Let’s start the discussion with Best Picture. 2018 was a great year in movies. How do you go about selecting only one for the grand prize? Black Panther made the most money at the box office. Shouldn’t the number 1 film win the Best Picture?

Some say the box office numbers are just one component of the Oscars. I say numbers aren’t everything, but there is power in numbers. Sometimes movies are ahead of their time like Scarface. Bohemian Rhapsody is a worthy contender.
Vice doesn’t impress me at all. And I think The Favouriteis a classic script. With the popularity of Netflix on the rise, I boldly predict Roma will win an award, but not Best Picture. Best Picture belongs to Black Panther.

Next, I believe Spike Lee should win Best Director for BlackkKlansman. It is a controversial film based on a true story. The movie is about a black man joining the KKK. This is Spike Lee’s time. Moreover, Jordan Peele’s involvement as a producer should help the cause.

Best Actor should go either to Bradley Cooper or Rami Malek in my opinion. I’m ready to say Bradley Cooper wins outright. Right now, he has the upper hand at this point in the award season.

I believe Best Actress goes to Olivia Colman. Hollywood has a habit of following trends, and Olivia Colman is trending for better or worst. Best Supporting Actor should go to Mahershala Ali. He is a fantastic actor and Green Book is an outstanding movie. It would shock me if he doesn’t win.

The word on the street is that Regina King will win Best Supporting Actress for her performance in If Beale Street Could Talk.After many years of being absent from “film”, she rightfully earned her onscreen nomination.

Here’s where Netflix comes into play. I feel Best Original Screenplay should go to the brilliant Alfonso Cuaron. Roma is too good to ignore. Roma may also win Best Foreign-Language Film as well.

Moreover, Bradley Cooper and Eric Roth will likely win for Best Adapted Screenplay. A Star Is Born is beautifully written. It should earn multiple awards.
Finally, RBG just might win Best Documentary and Best Cinematography goes to Never Look Away.

February 29 is a rare day. It is my honor to write and publish on a Leap Year. I will choose my words carefully considering this special opportunity.
Last night, my family and I watched the Oscars while eating dinner and later on some corn for popping. Host Chris Rock took control of the stage right from the start. In the words of Kevin Hart on the red carpet, Rock addressed “the elephant in the room.” Many of Chris’s jokes crossed the line, but wasn’t this expected?
Early on the musical sounds of Sam Smith filled the room. Additionally, Brie Larson won Best Lead Actress for Room. But first, Alicia Vikander (Spotlight) earned it for Best Supporting Actress. However, that was after the Weeknd performed Earned It.
Do you spy a pattern? Mark Rylance won Best Supporting Actor for his Bridge of Spies performance. If you weren’t a fan of repetition, you might be furiously angry that Mad Max: Fury Road scored 6 Oscars. Comic Louis C.K. lightened up the mood with his Mad Max bit.

Marvel supermen Chadwick Boseman and Chris Evans announced Mad Max for back-to-back awards. Plus, Superman himself Henry Cavill presented alongside Scandal’s Kerry Washington.
On a serious note, Lady Gaga made a bold move with her song standing against sexual violence. Spotlight received the Best Picture. Once again, Alejandro Iñárritu earned Best Director for The Revenant. The Revenant was also awarded Best Cinematography.
I always enjoy watching the Red Carpet. Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan gave fantastic interviews. It almost felt like the SuperBowl.
Ex-Machina deservingly took home a statute. Ryan Gosling joked that he and Russell Crowe shared 2 Oscars between them. Oh, in case that wasn’t enough, Chris Rock raised $65,342 selling Girl Scout cookies for his daughters inside the Dolby Theatre.

Last but not least, Leonardo Dicaprio earned Best Lead Actor for The Revenant. I believe this was his moment. All of Hollywood was proud of Dicaprio as he stood tall on that stage and accepted this amazing achievement. The moral of the story is: always believe in your dreams. Given an opportunity, take a leap of faith.

Why Bradley Cooper Deserves An Oscar

Last year Bradley Cooper strategically snapped a selfie at the Academy Awards. The meticulous thespian definitely desires an Oscar nomination. American Sniper could deliver the celebrity his long-awaited golden statue.
Bradley accelerated his career ever since Hangover. Movie stars take on serious roles to catapult their careers. In the highly acclaimed American Sniperfilm, Cooper resurrects Clint Eastwood’s relevancy as a director.
American Sniper chronicles the struggles of Navy SEAL & Iraq War veteran Chris Kyle. Despite limited release, the motion picture received numerous awards from the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review.

The Limitless actor rejects typecasting. As a result, the tenacious celebrity has starred in a variety of blockbusters ranging from the comedic to the horrific. Regardless of your taste, Bradley Cooper mixes up the Jambalaya.

Cooper’s professionalism distinguishes him from run-of-the-mill actors. Bradley befriended George Clooney because of their strikingly similar skillsets. Although Clooney is more polished and experienced, Cooper is very versatile and inventive.
When given a complex assignment, Bradley overachieves. Bradley approaches theatre like William Shakespeare. Jennifer Lawrence earned an Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook because of Cooper’s brilliant performance.
Sometimes, Hollywood blurs the lines between vanity and insanity. Cooper turns hot and cool whenever necessary. The celebrity’s highly capable. Moreover, Bradley wears comfortable moccasins.
The Philadelphia brother keeps walking even after stumbling. Bradley Cooper perseveres, when his contemporaries decline. Bradley deserves a star on Hollywood Boulevard; and should receive an Oscar sometime this winter.

Action Heroes And Zeroes: 1’s + 0’s

The best Action Heroes command a load of zeroes on their paychecks. Action is a big box office draw. Many Action Movies are rated PG-13. So, action movies often are nice family friendly films.

You will find many Action Heroes in our list of Top 10 Actors.  Action films require a high budget. It’s rare to see a low budget Action movie.

You know it takes money to make money. Think of Action flicks as an investment. Let’s say you bought Google stock.

Now, imagine buying stock in Bruce Willis like you would Google. You want to look at Bruce Willis as an investment. This is how the entertainment industry works.

I love action. You are hardly ever disappointed. Action Heroes have special stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. There is a strong bond between Action Heroes and Zeroes.

I vividly recall watching the original Robocop on several Saturdays. In the 90s, Robocop received massive syndication. Unfortunately, for the movie purist, TIVO was not invented yet.

You were forced to watch the commercials that came attached with the featured presentation. We did not mind the advertisements, because every now and again we needed popcorn and a can of Coke.

Technology still remains a major component of Action Movies. It’s a simple fact that Action makes movie executives billions of dollars. Bruce Willis is the ultimate Action Hero.

Look at the Die Hard franchise. As you will see, Willis has dominated decade after decade in the Action genre. Not very many other Action actors have lasted as long.

Bruce Willis is underrated. Although he earns a wad of zeroes, he is underpaid. As you may already know, Willis commanded a percentage of the Six Sense. He clearly made a calculated move.

Timing is everything in entertainment. Bruce Willis is a timeless actor. If you placed him in films from the fifties and sixties, he ‘d still be popular.

100 years from now, Bruce Willis films will still be popular. Mark my words. I can’t even express how much money Bruce Willis is worth. If you look anything like Willis, you’re welcome in Hollywood.

Another Action movie legend is Sylvester Stallone. I admire his Rambo movies. A lot like Bruce, Sly has owned the box office results. It’s safe to say Mr. Stallone is a senior citizen, but he does not act his age.

He still is pushing steel and pumping iron. And, he keeps on producing high quality productions such as the Expendables. I enjoy the Expendables because it is nostalgic.

Those Expendable actors put in a ton of work at the gym and on the silver screen. That’s why Stallone makes seven to eight zeroes per movie. He is the darn movie executive.

What about Rocky? Everybody loves Rocky. How many box office knockouts has Rocky had?


Next, is Jean-Claude Van Damme? He is an international Action icon. What’s more, he practices what he preaches. Van Damme is a martial artist master.

He’s a man you don’t want to argue with. He can paralyze his foe in one quick hand movement.  Like Stallone, Van Damme does not act his age.

His global appeal is brilliantly marketed in this Volvo commercial. 



It’s easy to tell he is true to his craft. I like his authentic nature.


If I excluded Arnold Schwarzenegger I wouldn’t be able to call myself a journalist. I truly think he is half man and half machine. Prove me wrong.


P.S. He’ll be back!

He has matured into arguably the greatest action hero of all time. Schwarzenegger started his career as a bodybuilder and took off from there. His Terminator franchise is legendary.

If you plan to write a piece on movie history, it’s only right you mention Arnold Schwarzenegger in the discussion.

The Action filmography of Will Smith speaks for itself. He has earned a spot at the top because of his value. He brings value to each movie he is associated with.

Smith’s box office results are not comparable. That’s why he also garners seven to eight zeroes. The only knock on Smith is he should star in more films.

Take a few more risks like After Earth. No risk, no reward. You can’t make a hit all the time.

Here comes the Men in Black! Don’t they defend the galaxy or something?


The Men in Black franchise is a major part of action/science fiction cinema. All
Three films are spectacular. Independence Day was an instant classic. Watch a clip of Will Smith at his best.

Angelina Jolie is an Action Superwoman.  She is a hero for all women. She commands several zeroes because of her brand. She sells her characters better than Procter & Gamble.

As you can see, Jolie is versatile. She proves to the entertainment world that women can star in more than romance and comedy. She is legitimate.

Her box office results in movies like Wanted speak volumes.

Jolie has some of the best sex appeal ever filmed. But, she is more than a sex symbol. Angelina is an amazingly talented actress. She is in the heavyweight division just like Sylvester Stallone.


Remember, when I said you are hardly ever disappointed with Action. Well, sometimes you get robbed. Sometimes, you respectfully ask for your money back.

After all, money doesn’t grow on pine trees. Money grows on trees in Larry Page’s backyard.

Action Zeroes

Action movies staring Rob Schneider should never be made. He is an above average comedian. He is not an Action star.

First of all, looking the part is a prerequisite. Secondly, acting the part is just as critical. Jay Leno is first on the list of Action Zeroes.

I showed you a strong connection of Action heroes and zeroes. Now, let’s go to the other extreme. These Action actors don’t command a lot of zeroes. In fact, they are Action Zeroes.

The following five actors are the five worst Action Stars judged by Xfinity.
